One week after passing a head tax on major businesses located in Seattle, including Amazon, Microsoft and Starbucks, the Seattle City Council is now considering an enormous property tax on the people who work at those businesses. According to Q13 FOX, King County homeowners already saw a bump of 17% in their property taxes in 2017, but City Council members want property taxes increased even more:

Council members Lorena Gonzalez and Rob Johnson are sponsoring the measure, which states the council wants to lift the limit on regular property taxes in order to levy additional taxes. … In 2014, Seattle voters approved a $58 million levy allowing low-income kids to go to preschool for free. Since 2015, the city says the program has allowed affordable or free preschool to 850 families. Now the city wants to send hundreds more to preschool. Mayor Jenny Durkan’s Office is also pushing to send high school graduates to community college for free.

The property tax would amount to, on average, more than another $250 per year for homeowners.

These people are crazy.
Not only does hurt the existing businesses, it puts up a large barrier for start ups to even try and compete.
These could be the goal all along, stop the start ups.
Sometimes I think regulations are geared towards this, and pushed for by larger companies, who can absorb the hit better.

If Amazon is smart, they'd begin prepping for such a move, but...
...Even that won't stop the democrat-communists who control Seattle.
They'll pass a higher "head tax" to compensate on ALL the remaining businesses.

Same with the property tax increase.
Makes no matter if an increasing number of homeowners leave, even at personal loss.
The city will raise the remaining taxes higher. And HIGHer...

Isn't that the company considering (supposedly) a move to the 'Burgh? Peduto probably likes the Seattle tax idea, so good luck with all that!

Pittsburgh is one of numerous applicants for a second headquarters, but I thinks its chances are slim.  Already, there is a bunch of whiners demanding that if Amazon does come to Pittsburgh, it will have to pay for "affordable housing" and an assortment of other "free stuff" for "minorities."  I can't see Bezos agreeing to what amounts to extortion.

This is all going to put a new spin on the phrase, "sleepless in Seattle."

I'm glad I'm only going to be there for a week in July. (My son's southern California softball team is playing in the national Special Olympics 1-5 July; they qualified by winning the regional Special Olympics gold a year and a half ago.)

It's a nice place to visit.  I'd lose my mind if I had to live in Seattle or one of the other socialist nut job paradises,  like Portland.

It won't be a 'hug,' but something is going to get squeezed.

Five'll get you twenty no one in position of any authority in these large, successful companies will link their own leftist proclivities to their current tax predicament.

Its not just about businesses leaving, home owners are being forced out also.  I have lived in Washington all my life.  I love it here but the liberals have ruined it.  It is no longer a place for families.
AG William Barr: "I'm recused from that matter because one of the law firms that represented Epstein long ago was a firm that I subsequently joined for a period of time."

Alexander Acosta Labor Secretary resigned under pressure concerning his "sweetheart deal" with Jeffrey Epstein.  He was under consideration for AG after Sessions was removed, but was forced to resign instead.

You need to get out before you can't afford to get out.

@GrouchoTex

Since the large businesses are the ONLY ones in a position to influence local politics,I'd have to say you are onto something there.

They can stand to lose profits in the short term is it will guarantee that they are the only ones left standing when the dust settles. Then they will be able to provide lower wages and prices in company housing and company stores, and end up virtual Soviet elites.

Remember, wealth is a relative thing, but power is ALL.

And then they can change their name to "Detroit West".

This is AWESOME! Let the city burn in ruin as the free shit army takes their fair share from the Commie Lib filth who reside there.

Put your money where your mouth is homeowners and business.
