Were Viking Swords As Effective As They Were Impressive?

AncientPages.com - The loss of a sword was a catastrophe to a Viking. Vikings believed a man and his sword were bound together. The sword gave power to the warrior, but warrior's strength could also be transferred to the sword.

A Viking sword was a deadly weapon and symbol of power. It was jewelry for a man, with 'magical properties'. How the Vikings named their sword was a matter of heritage. Swords were given names and passed from father to son for generations.

They've made them on forged in fire tv show.   yes they were pretty bad ass weapons.

True historical fact: The Vikings believed that the best swords were swords that were quenched from the forge in the piss of a red-head virgin. LOL

It would be interesting to know how this belief came about?

I was just ribbing you.  But, yes, the term has been applied to boys too, though far more commonly to girls.

If it's not just an old wives tale, I might hazard the following guess:

Thor was not a blonde. That's 19th century revisionism.

Thor was a redhead. Vikings associated redheads with fiery tempers and believed them to be troublemakers.

Thor had 2 sons and 1 daughter.

The sons were Magni (strength, might) and Modi (wrath)

If Redheads were producing mythic quenching fluids, I'm going with the offspring of Thor.
