Johnny Paycheck, "Outlaw's Prayer":

"Colorado Kool-Aid", a must-hear for vintage country, though not as vintage as that "hillybilly-music.com" website, Johnny Paycheck, RIP, it seemed he lived life hard, got into some pretty bad trouble too.
! No longer available
"Greatest Hits", I knew he had been around a while before "Take This Job And Shove It" but not that long.  A very young Johnny Paycheck on the cover.
! No longer available

Wayne Carson, country musician and wrote "Always On My Mind" which has been covered by Willie Nelson, Elvis and I'm sure many others.  Willie's is probably the definitive version though, who knows what other covers are out there.
! No longer available

Junior (William) Campbell, Scottish musician, Marmalade, "Falling Apart at the Seams", a departure from the usual "Reflections Of My Life":

"No Quarter":

BTW, Jimmy Page has been in the news lately, not bad news either. He's fooling with his house over there and his neighbor wanted to put a pool in the neighbors house, Jimmy Page took it to court saying the noise and vibrations might harm his Gothic Mansion. Page won his case.

Greta Van Fleet, 3 brothers (Kiszka) and one who isn't, play a style of music that make some think of Led Zeppelin:

Birthday boy Nelson Riddle's first significant gig was in the trombone section of Tommy Dorsey's band, when Dorsey added a) strings, and b) arranger extraordinaire Sy Oliver to his organisation, and you can bet Riddle was paying very close attention to Oliver's work. (Oliver was previously the man who helped Jimmie Lunceford create the two-beat style that made Lunceford a star for a couple of years earlier . . . ) Even though Riddle had already made a splash arranging Glenn Miller's "Little Brown Jug" . . .

Tommy Dorsey & His Orchestra, "Opus One" (note the label misspelled Sy Oliver's name)

He studied orchestration further while he was in the Merchant Marine, then moved to southern California and found work as an arranger with, among others, Doris Day, arranging her hit "Again" even though he didn't receive label credit for it . . .

Doris Day, "Again"

Riddle was hired by Capitol to begin arranging for Nat King Cole in 1950; Les Baxter hired Riddle, who promptly gave Cole the biggest seller of his career but took the arranging credit for himself. Fat lot of good that did him: Cole discovered who'd really written the charts, and kept Riddle aboard . . .

Nat King Cole, "Mona Lisa"

. . . and not long afterward, after becoming convinced by Cole's hits, Frank Sinatra gave in and let Riddle arrange an album for him after he signed with Capitol, and after his first couple of records with his longtime arranger (and fellow Dorsey alumnus) Axel Stordahl tanked. It was a marriage made in the music heavens . . .

. . . Riddle also arranged one of the best entries in Ella Fitzgerald's Song Book series . . .

This is my personal favourite of the television themes Nelson Riddle either wrote or merely recorded . . .
