Surgeons admit that mammography is outdated and harmful to women

Friday, October 28, 2016 by: Ethan A. Huff, staff writer

(NaturalNews) Every year, millions of women flock to their doctors to get their annual mammograms, a breast cancer screening procedure that involves pressing a woman's breasts between two metal platforms to scope out tumors. But surgeons everywhere are starting to question the controversial practice, which studies show isn't even an effective screening tool, and is actually harmful to the bodies of women who receive it.

The public is told that mammograms are the only way to catch breast cancer early, but a review of eight scientific trials evaluating the procedure, found that mammography is neither effective nor safe. After looking at data on more than 600,000 women between the ages of 39 and 74 who underwent the procedure on a routine basis, researchers found that many women are misdiagnosed. Many of these same women are consequently mistreated with chemotherapy, resulting in their rapid demise.

My doctor writes a scrip for me to get a mammo every year and every year I throw it out.  I had two of them done as a young girl.   The results for the first one were lost by the hospital.  The results of the second one were supposedly given to my ob-gyn, but she moved away and could not be found. I'm not getting another mammogram.

Besides, cancer is not prevalent in my family.  We all croak from heart disease.  So my risk is small.

I think this article is alarmist and fake news.  They're not fun, they're not 100% accurate, but they are important and do identify life threatening tumors.

I agree.  It is not fun for the beasts to be mashed in the machine for a number of seconds/a minute, but it is over fast.

One time, I was referred to a surgeon due to a tiny spot in one breast.  He told me he was sure it was nothing, but if we didn't get that out and check it, and it was cancer, then we would be sorry we didn't do it.

So, I went in for the surgery.  I was put on a gurney and rolled to the x-ray department.  This guy did nothing to deaden the area, put me under a machine, located the spot and stuck a needle into the breast to where the spot was.  Can you say pain?  Then they rolled me out and the motion of the gurney made the needle keep moving and it was major painful.  Got to the room and the anesthetist saw how much pain I was in and said, "I will give you something to stop the pain."  He knocked me out and I woke up after it was over.

The tissue was sent for analysis and it was not cancer.  I didn't have to worry that cancer might be growing in that breast.

The insurance companies are behind the movement to reduce these types of checks.  They are rarely positive so for them it's a waste.

Been there, done that... except sans machine... and just in the doctor's office.  Nothing for pain, huge needle.  It's amazing how "unfeeling" some doctors are.  I'd like to see how they reacted to  having that same needle stuck up their peepees... with nothing to deaden the pain.

I had almost the same experience in the surgeons office...tried to get a sample with a needle and he kept poking around. He finally gave up and I had to have a lumpectomy at the hospital. My results were neg to..just a tissue mass.

If you take your medical advice from natural news instead of a real doctor, then frankly it's darwinism in work.

My sister-in-law has a high incidence of breast cancer in her family.  She was encouraged to have a mammogram twice a year instead of the usual once a year.  Until Obamacare and all the insurance changes, her insurance paid for twice a year mammograms.  Now her insurance will only pay for one a year.

But apparently, the insurance companies (or someone) is compelling doctors to insist their patients get a mammogram every year.  I keep telling my doctor it's pointless for him to write a scrip for me, but he says he has to, even though I won't go.

Decisions regarding our health care are no longer ours to make in consult with our doctors.  We now have a bunch of bureaucrats and insurance companies making those decisions for us.

Looks like you've made the decision regarding prophylactic mammograms.  Your doctor is giving you the referral based on current best practices.  You've decided not to follow his/her recommendation, which is of course your right.  I hope that you don't influence someone else and they suffer for it, though.

And, mammograms are on the way out.  There are newer, better ways of detecting cancers now.

Of course.  This is how Obamacare was sold to us.  People are dying in the streets for lack of health care and the only solution is to force everyone  to buy crappy health insurance.  Health care was equated with insurance.

And once people accept the mindset that good care is synonymous with health insurance, it will be easy to sell them on the next step - single payer, government - dictated health care (or no care at all).

I'm not tying to influence anyone. As I said before, healthcare decisions should be ours in conjunction with our physicians.

And as for those new methods,  one should check her insurance. Might not be covered. I know my SIL was going to have some kind of ultrasound procedure done. Insurance wouldn't pay for it.
