Trump Secures 35 Percent NATO Defense Spending Increase From Macron
Daily Caller, Apr 23, 2018, Christian Datoc

President Donald Trump secured a commitment from French President Emmanuel Macron Monday to increase the country’s NATO defense spending by more than a third.

Trump hosted Macron in Washington, DC Monday, after which the White House announced France’s commitment to meet NATO’s two percent GDP defense spending minimum, an increase of 35 percent.

The White House also highlighted France’s cooperation in condemning Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s use of chemical weapons on his own people. The US, United Kingdom and France all took part in airstrikes launched on military and electrical infrastructure targets in Syria on April 13.

POTUS further thanked Macron and France for being a “key partner of the United States in the global campaign against ISIS.”

35% brings them to the NATO mandated obligation that each member country spend 2% of their GDP on defense.

That's peanuts especially with some of the countries like France and Germany.

And though France's increase sounds good on paper...it's really a pittance considering their 2017 GDP was $2.58 Trillion USD.
