First lady releases menu, details for Macron's state visit

The White House on Monday revealed the menu, entertainment and other details in anticipation of the first state visit of the Trump administration.

French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife will stay in Washington, D.C., to start the week. The couple will join President Trump and first lady Melania Trump on a trip to George Washington’s old home at Mount Vernon on Monday night, before taking place in a flurry of events Tuesday.

Roughly 500 members of the U.S. military and dozens of government officials will greet the French president at the White House for a welcoming ceremony on Tuesday morning.

The first lady selected specific décor, entertainment and food options for Tuesday night’s state dinner, the White House said.

The menu will consist of three courses, which will include American dishes with French influences. The main course will be a rack of spring lamb with Carolina gold rice jambalaya, cooked New Orleans' style.

The White House will serve wines made from French plants harvested in Oregon.

The Washington National Opera from the John F. Kennedy Center for Performing Arts will perform for the night’s entertainment.

Several foreign leaders have visited the White House since Trump took office but Macron's will be the first ceremonial state visit. The French president said in an interview broadcast Sunday that he and Trump have developed a strong personal relationship.

Grilled lamb with rosemary, garlic, and thyme is delicious.  They'd better select the greens carefully, given the e. coli issues with romaine, or there will be plenty of barfing....among other things.

Bush china, guests will dine on a menu that includes both American and French touches (the rack of lamb will be served with a Cajun-spiced Carolina Gold rice jambalaya and the nectarine tart with crème fraiche ice cream).

Trump chose to hold the dinner for the French dignitaries in the State Room, the smallest of the White House venues used for such events. The guest list is a modest 130 to 150, making for a more intimate soiree than many state dinners in previous administrations. (For example, the Obamas’ last state dinner, for Italy, packed nearly 400 guests into a tent on the South Lawn.)

I thought she might be channeling Mooch's wide legged stance. I cannot imagine the effort it takes for her to maintain her "youthful" looks.

Gone are the President Barack Obama-era days of outside event-planning firms and tents set up on the South Lawn to accommodate guest lists of more than 350. Like President George W. Bush, Trump will host the event in the State Dining Room, with a guest list close to 150.

But unlike his predecessors, Trump hasn’t invited any members of Congress from the opposing party. He’s also opted not to invite any members of the media, another departure from past state dinners.

“It is a break with tradition,” said Lea Berman, who was White House social secretary under Bush and wrote the etiquette guide “Treating People Well” with Obama Social Secretary Jeremy Bernard.

This year, the entire Democratic caucus has been shut out, including Trump’s own home-state senator and Minority Leader Chuck Schumer. Members of the media, too, have been left off the invite list, according to a White House official. Absent will be the Hollywood stars who regularly graced Obama events.

I get why Mooch does it.  Often times, you’ll see large guys standing like that in weight loss ads to appear thinner.  Why Brigitte is taking that stance is unknown.  Perhaps a breeze made it necessary to establish a solid base.
