Trump casts doubt on legality of special counsel Mueller

President Trump on Friday night renewed doubts about the security of the special counsel’s probe into Russian interference in the 2016 election by musing in a tweet that the special counsel “was established based on an illegal act.”

“James Comey illegally leaked classified documents to the press in order to generate a Special Council? Therefore, the Special Council was established based on an illegal act? Really, does everybody know what that means?” he tweeted late Friday evening.

I know most Trump supporters agree with you.  I'm reasonably sure Trump's attorneys have advised him to keep quiet, lest he say something that might incriminate himself  Why doesn't he take that advice?  The more he talks, the more the investigation will point to him .  Does he want to be caught in some criminal activity so he can be a martyr to his supporters?  An innocent man wouldn't act this way.

Nah.  The stupider he looks (if that’s possible).  And the more opportunity he gives Mueller to trip him up and catch him for lying to law enforcement.

Sorry, but the appointment of the SC to begin the Russia probe was an inevitability.  The firing of Comey only hastened it.  As Gowdy had said in the aftermath of the Nunes memo release, actions during the campaign warranted investigation, even without the infamous Steele dossier.


MARGARET BRENNAN: Saturday, President Trump tweeted that the memo "totally vindicated Trump" in the Russia probe. We sat down earlier with South Carolina Congressman Trey Gowdy, a key House Intelligence investigator and asked him if he thought the president had been vindicated.

REP. GOWDY: I actually don't think it has any impact on the Russia probe for this reason --



MARGARET BRENNAN: The memo has no impact on the Russia probe?

REP. GOWDY: No-- not to me, it doesn't -- and I was pretty integrally involved in the drafting of it. There is a Russia investigation without a dossier. So to the extent the memo deals with the dossier and the FISA process, the dossier has nothing to do with the meeting at Trump Tower. The dossier has nothing to do with an email sent by Cambridge Analytica. The dossier really has nothing to do with George Papadopoulos' meeting in Great Britain. It also doesn't have anything to do with obstruction of justice. So there's going to be a Russia probe, even without a dossier.
