Hungary election 2018 LIVE RESULTS: Latest news as polls close
Express/UK, Apr 8, 2018

HUNGARY’S 2018 parliamentary election could shake the EU to the core with a new wave of euroscepticism if the outcome will see the re-election of Fidesz party leader Viktor Orban, Hungary's longest-serving post-communist premier

This year’s Hungarian election has been marked by an acrimonious campaign that saw incumbent right-wing prime minister Mr Orban speaking out against immigration and the European Union’s refugee policy.

If Mr Orban achieves a strong win today, he could feel empowered by the voters’ choice to put more muscle into an anti-EU Central European alliance, which opposes to a deeper integration of the bloc and a shared responsibility of the hospitality of refugees reaching the European Union.

Soros Organisations Seeking to ‘Break Hungary’ Ahead of Sunday Election, Says Government
Breitbart, Apr 7, 2018, Oliver JJ Lane

With Hungarians set to go to the polls on Sunday, a spokesman for the Prime Minister has warned organisations sponsored by billionaire financier George Soros are working to blackmail the country into accepting mass migration.
Labelling a leaked European Union paper a “Soros report” designed to force Hungary to bow to EU pressure to accept mass migration and other diktats, Zoltán Kovács said Hungarians would never accept the demands.

Remarking that changes proposed to the Dublin regulations which govern the movement of asylum seekers within the bloc would soon make Hungary taking migrants mandatory, Kovács recalled how, “In recent weeks and days, several statements have been made concerning the systematic attempt to break Hungary that the Soros organisations are trying to achieve using various instruments.”

I'd love to see a list of all of the countries Soros has tried to "influence" with his money, from Albania to the U.S. (or possibly even to Z, Zaire).

Viktor Orban: Hungary PM re-elected for third term
BBC, Apr 8, 2018

Hungary's right-wing Prime Minister Viktor Orban has claimed a landslide victory in Sunday's general election.

The 54-year-old will serve a third consecutive term in office, with his party Fidesz projected to keep its key two-thirds majority in parliament.

Mr Orban is a strong Eurosceptic who campaigned on an anti-immigration platform.

In a speech to supporters on Sunday night, Mr Orban said his victory gave Hungarians "the opportunity to defend themselves and to defend Hungary".

Leaders of the second and third-placed parties have resigned in light of the result.

Hungary's strongman Viktor Orban wins third term in power
Reuters, Apr 8, 2018

BUDAPEST, Hungary (Reuters) - Prime Minister Viktor Orban won a third straight term in power in Sunday elections after his anti-immigration campaign message secured a strong majority for his party in parliament, granting him two-thirds of seats based on preliminary results.

The rightwing nationalist prime minister projected himself as a savior of Hungary’s Christian culture against Muslim migration into Europe, an image which resonated with millions of voters, especially in rural areas.

“We have won, Hungary has won a great victory,” a jubilant Orban told a large crowd of cheering supporters near the Danube river in Budapest.   â€œThere is a big battle behind us, we have won a crucial victory, giving ourself a chance to defend Hungary.”

According to preliminary results with 93 percent of votes counted, National Election Office data projected Fidesz to win 133 seats, a tight two-thirds majority in the 199-seat parliament. Nationalist Jobbik was projected to win 26 seats, while the Socialists were projected as third with 20 lawmakers.

The victory could embolden Orban to put more muscle into a Central European alliance against the European Union’s migration policies. Orban, Hungary’s longest-serving post-communist premier, opposes deeper integration of the bloc and - teaming up with Poland - has been a fierce critique of Brussels’ policies.

He expressed gratitude to Poland’s leaders for their backing ahead of the vote.

French far-right leader Marine Le Pen, president of the National Front, was the first to congratulate Orban.

Yeah, they're making it pretty clear they still don't like Jews, aren't they?

Yeah, they're making it pretty clear they still don't like Jews, aren't they?

This is a pretty awful statement @LauraTXNM ... most especially since it's not true and this election had nothing to do with their Jewish population.  And it's dishonest to set up a charge of anti-Semitism by being coy and not stating up front that your friends feel this way because they are Jewish.

My best, most sincere advice is to stop listening to George Soros.  It's not good for anyone's health.

My friends are Jewish; that is why they left.  You are the person who said Hungary would be glad they were gone.  (Of course, you made the wrong assumption about their reasons for leaving, but you were incidentally right about their recent treatment.)

It is absolutely true, that Jews in Hungary are facing new levels of persecution, only encouraged by the statements of Orban and other government officials.  I'm sorry if that's painful to read, but it is a fact.  Yes, it is a "pretty awful statement", and I'm sad to have to make it.  Do you have relatives in Hungary who contradict it?

And I am also the person who didn't know who your friends are and why they felt the need to leave. You for some reason decided this was not important in their reasoning .... leaving me to assume they are to the left of your political leanings and unhappy with the conservative victory.  Don't point a finger at me because your post was disingenuous.

That's all.  I've nothing else to discuss with you about this.

@Right_in_Virginia  you are the one who said, without knowing anything about why my friends left, that Hungary would be glad they were gone.  You insulted them, in short, without knowing anything about them.  Then when a I explained why they did left, you also implied that they could not have left because of tensions against Jews in Hungary.  Then you suggested I'm brainwashed by Soros.

You insulted my friends and then me.

But never mind.
