Ohio election info - 2018 primary
« on: April 02, 2018, 07:58:01 pm »
This post is about the race to decide who tries to unseat
Democrat Senator Sherrod Brown this fall.

The race is between Jim Renacci (rhymes with Stacy)
and his top challenger, Mike Gibbons.

Renacci has been a Congressmen for a few terms,
and has accumulated a mediocre record as a conservative.

I received the following via email:
_______

Jim Renacci calls himself a “blue collar democrat” in this video recorded on Saturday morning in Sharonville.

https://www.facebook.com/MikeGibbonsOH/videos/vb.422429638136363/554401528272506/?type=2&theater

This statement made this week by Jim Renacci makes perfect sense if you look at his congressional voting record.

Just last year:

2015-2016 votes that tell the story

Mr. Renacci compares himself to Jim Jordan so I took the same comparison below.

1. Let’s look at Federal control of education.

2015-2016 Congress Voted to reauthorize No Child Left Behind (NCLB),
most recently called ESSA. After being put in place in 2001, this act
took federal controls over states rights to educate children. This was
done to start the track to Common Core. I believe once Common Core
became more and more despised congress had to act fast to reauthorize
its controls before states took back control. Common Core is NCLB and
is now called ESSA.

Mr. Renacci says he wants to push education down to the states. Ummm
what? Why did he vote to support federal control?
Heritage Actions feels this vote significantly altered states rights
and places control of educating children firmly in the hands of the
federal government and reduces opportunities for children and
decreases choices for parents.

Jim Jordan voted against, =NO, to reauthorization of federal control
of education (NCLB).

Renacci voted YES for this reauthorization (federal control) aka
Common Core. What he says does not match what he has done.

He also says that the other candidates are all part of the Ohio
problem but he is part of the problem in Washington. See below

OK, so everyone admits education is failing our students and our
country. According to the federal government the NCLB act was needed
and enacted specifically due to the failing public education system.

The federal Government and the Teachers unions took control of
education in 1980 so obviously the failures of public education can be
traced directly to these influences. Since the federal government
working closely and under the influence of the teachers unions have
been significantly involved in our public education system they should
be held responsible for these well known failures. How could
continuing this federal and union intrusion, the denial of States
rights, not to mention failures, be considered acceptable? A
conservative would say it isn’t. Thank You to Jim Jordan

2. Let’s look at Religious Freedom

2015-2016 Congress voted for The Maloney Anti Religious Freedom Amendment Act.

This act unnecessarily restrains business and bars federal contractors
from “discrimination”. Now these businesses are forced to allow men in
women’s restrooms. Any business who wants a federal contract is now
forced to recognize Transgender individuals as a protected class.

Jim Jordan Voted NO
Renacci Voted YES

All people should be offended by this big government regulation that
defies logic and religious freedom!

3. Let’s look at growing government and wasteful spending

A. 21st Century Cures Act HR 34 spends $6.3 Billion more than current
spending on NIH and FDA. These grow government and spending.

Jordan=NO, Renacci= YES

B. Energy and Water Appropriations Bill HR 5055- spends $259 million
more than last year and $168 million more than the President asked
for.

Jordan=NO, Renacci= YES

C. 500 B Doc Fix Deal adds $500 Billion to our National Debt.

Jordan=NO, Renacci= YES

D. Amtrack Reauthorization- authorizes more money to the financially
failing long distance Amtrack routes.

Jordan=NO, Renacci= YES

E. 2016 II RSC Blueprint for a Balanced Budget.

Jordan YES, Renacci= NO.

F. Hudson Amendment to take Department of Energy spending back to 2008 levels.

Jordan= YES, Renacci= NO

G. Hice Amendment- to stop federal workers from doing union paid
business while they were working and getting paid by the US
government.

Jordan=YES, Renacci= NO

H. $1.1 Trillion Omnibus Spending Bill December 2015 =

Jordan=NO, Renacci= YES

I. Continuation of the Import- Export Bank = Total global cronyism.

This IE Bank gives American tax dollars to foreign businesses.
Possible pay to play scheme.

Jordan=NO, Renacci= YES

J. 2016 EPA funding for Diesel research- contains wasteful spending
that should be done by private business.

Jordan=NO, Renacci= YES

4. Let’s look at who stands for freedom.

A. King Amendment- to stop Davis-Bacon. Davis Bacon forces the federal
government to abide by arbitrary “prevailing wage” requirements for
federal construction projects. Prevents free market influences. Union
forced price controls.

Jordan=YES, Renacci= NO

B. Stanford Freedom in Footwear Amendment- allows military recruits
freedom to buy their choice in footwear rather than being forced to
buy from one supplier. Allows free market influence.

Jordan=YES, Renacci= NO

So I now understand why Conservative Review gives Jim Renacci an F

Here's another email I received about Jim Renacci:

Jim Renacci Ducks Debate!

Renacci says "He will be devoting his full time and energy to defeating Sherrod Brown in November."

Are Republicans scared to debate and share their vision with the Voters of Ohio?

One of EmpowerU's core functions is to make sure there are forums available for citizens to discuss issues and candidates for upcoming elections.  Where we sense that candidates are not willing to engage it is our policy to make this information known to the citizens to hold the candidates accountable.

We have invited Congressman and Senate Candidate Jim Renacci several times over the last month to debate Cleveland Businessman and Senate Candidate Mike Gibbons on April 16 in Cincinnati.   In response to our invitation Renacci's Communication Director, Brittany Martinez said,
"Although Jim applauds EmpowerU's mission to help foster civically engaged communities, Congress is in session April 16th and he will be in Washington that evening, continuing the fight for a common sense conservative agenda on behalf of Ohioans."
--Brittany Martinez, Renacci for Senate, Communication Director

After we received the above response, we asked Renacci for any other debate date that he would be available and we were told,  "Renacci will be devoting his full time and energy to defeating Sherrod Brown in November, so we must decline."

(sure sounds like a debate duck to us!)

Renacci is the second Ohio Office Holder who has refused to debate his primary contender in this election cycle.  Governor Candidate Mike DeWine has refused to debate his challenger Mary Taylor. This is a troubling pattern of behaviour for candidates looking to run for our highest offices in Ohio.   What are these candidates positions on issues?

By sending you this email it is our way to hold Jim Renacci accountable for his refusal to debate.   We hope you will ask him why.

Contact Jim Renacci at  info@jimrenacci.com  and ask him  "Why the Duck?"
If all mankind minus one, were of one opinion, and only one person were of the contrary opinion,
mankind would be no more justified in silencing that one person, than he, if he had the power, would be justified in silencing mankind.

   Ohio election choices

1. Mike DeWine vs Mary Taylor for Governor:

DeWine's ad claims that Taylor's ad is false.

However, the pro-Taylor ad cites the specific votes that DeWine made for illegal immigration, etc.

(Actually, it's the pro-Taylor ad by OnwardOhio.org that cites the specific votes.
But it makes the same points as the actual Taylor campaign ad.)

DeWine's ad that denies Taylor's claims cites only Politifact.com as their source.

From:  http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/blog/2011/oct/06/who-pays-for-politifact/

PolitiFact was created by the Tampa Bay Times, a Florida newspaper, in 2007.
In 2018, PolitiFact was acquired by the Poynter Institute, a nonprofit school for journalists.

(You might want to check out:  http://www.politifactbias.com/ )

When Mary Taylor was in the state legislature, she introduced a strong anti-abortion bill.
Then-Speaker Jon Husted responded by removing her from the committee.

We should also remember that DeWine was part of the "Gang of 14"
concerning the appointment of federal judges.
He joined "great conservatives" like John McCain RINO-AZ and Lindsey Graham RINO-SC
as they made a deal with Robert Byrd D-WV and six other Dems.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gang_of_14

DeWine was voted out of the Senate in 2006 for being a RINO.

We should do likewise this year.

2. Jim Renacci vs Mike Gibbons for Senate:

Jim Renacci (rhymes with Stacy) has been given mediocre scores
from organizations like Conservative Review
for his record in the House of Representatives.

I sent his campaign the following email on Feb. 23, 2018:
_______

To:  <Info@JimRenacci.com>

I was at the event where you spoke in Dayton on February 12.
You said all the right things, but I see where
Conservative Review gives you a rating of 62%,
which is rather mediocre.
Why should I believe your statements over your record?
That is not a rhetorical question.
I am willing to consider your response,
and share it with others who are concerned about your record.

_______

As of now (April 1) I have not received a reply.

To be fair,
Renacci did vote against the budget busting spending bill last week:
_______

https://www.c-span.org/congress/bills/bill?115/hr1625

* House Vote 127
* March 22, 2018
* 12:37PM ET

House Approves $1.3 Trillion Omnibus Spending Bill, 256-157
H.R. 1625
_______

But I think Mike Gibbons would be a more reliable conservative.
_______

(About the bill, it looks to me like The Donald signed it
thinking the same way a football coach thinks
when he settles for a field goal
instead of trying for a touchdown.

The increase in military spending is the field goal.
If he had vetoed the bill,
the next bill might have not even had that in it.

Plus, a stronger military gives him a better position
when negotiating with other countries. )
_______
If all mankind minus one, were of one opinion, and only one person were of the contrary opinion,
mankind would be no more justified in silencing that one person, than he, if he had the power, would be justified in silencing mankind.

This just in (via email):

BREAKING: Rand Paul endorses Mary Taylor

U.S. Senator Rand Paul, a conservative firebrand and Tea Party leader, endorses Mary Taylor for Governor!

Senator Paul’s endorsement follows several other big endorsements Mary received in the past month from conservative household names – Senator Steve Daines, Senator Mike Lee, and former Congresswoman Michele Bachmann.

The Republican primary election for governor is around the corner. Mary’s momentum continues to climb. These endorsements solidify Mary as THE conservative choice for Governor.

I attended a candidate forum recently,
where both challengers of Jim Renacci spoke.
I would like either one of them to win the primary.

Mike Gibbons is well educated, and is reliably conservative.
Melissa Ackison is GREAT at "business street smarts"
and has VERY compelling stories to tell about
personal experience with Obamacare
and in business.
(She has no college degrees,
but is a much sought after business consultant.
She’s gotten several crooked CEOs fired.)
She debates like a piranha.
She reminds me of Carly Fiorina debating.
I would LOVE to see her tear up Sherrod Brown!

I am sending the following message to
both Gibbons and Ackison:
_______

I attended the candidate forum on April 2.
I think either one of you would be a better Senator
than Jim Renacci.
He SAYS the right things, but his record is spotty.
https://votesmart.org/candidate/evaluations/120678/jim-renacci#.WsKjX42ouUk

It seems likely that you two will split the conservative vote,
and Renacci will win.
Both of you have some likeable features.
I'd be okay with either one of you winning.
It would be great if the two of you
could figure out a way to team up.
_______

I hope either Gibbons or Ackison wins the primary.
If not, I will support Renacci in the fall and hope for the best,
because Sherrod Brown is soooo far left!
If all mankind minus one, were of one opinion, and only one person were of the contrary opinion,
mankind would be no more justified in silencing that one person, than he, if he had the power, would be justified in silencing mankind.

Message sent statewide (and beyond) on May 1:

Ohio election info - spring 2018

1.  VOTESMART

The first thing I'd like to mention is Votesmart.
It's a great tool to get info on candidates.
Just go to the main page, www.votesmart.org
and type the candidate's name into the blank.
Then click on each folder in the row of folders
to see the candidate's voting record, endorsements,
ratings given by conservative and leftist organizations, etc.
You'll be amazed at how MANY ratings are available!

2.  GOVERNOR

I think Mary Taylor is probably our best bet.
Rand Paul and Ted Cruz both have endorsed her.

She chose Nathan Estruth for Lt. Gov.
He's a conservative's conservative.
He has served on the Board of Directors
at Alliance Defending Freedom.

Here are some links to info about Nathan Estruth:
https://www.bloomberg.com/research/stocks/private/person.asp?personId=113639426&privcapId=109137837

http://www.dispatch.com/news/20180110/mary-taylor-says-gubernatorial-running-mate-estruth-checks-all-boxes

We all know what a disappointment Kasich has turned out to be.
Mary Taylor is even pretending that Kasich didn't endorse her!

The DeWine campaign has been running TV ads
accusing the Taylor campaign of making false claims about DeWine.
The Taylor ad is actually from a pro-Taylor super PAC,
not the Taylor campaign itself.
DeWine's source of "fact finding" is from PolitiFact,
which has an extensive record of left wing bias.
More info here ---> https://www.politifactbias.com/

Politifact's discussion of the Taylor ad is here:
http://www.politifact.com/ohio/statements/2018/mar/23/onward-ohio/ohio-tv-ad-misleads-attack-mike-dewine-about-immig/

It acknowledges that the pro-Taylor ad's claims are true,
but claims that they are exaggerated and out of context.

This article reveals who is supporting the Taylor campaign:
www.dispatch.com/news/20180416/mary-taylor-super-pac

Here in Greene County, where I'm writing this,
in 1980, Mike DeWine was County Prosecutor.
Just before the 1980 election (he was running for State Senate)
he obtained and had executed numerous warrants
to arrest drug dealers, to appear tough on drugs.
26 of the 27 prosecutions later failed due to insufficient evidence.

Mike DeWine chose Jon Husted to be his running mate.
Husted, now Ohio Secretary of State, was running for Governor,
but dropped out to become De Wine's running mate.
Husted is pretty conservative, but not as rock-solid as Nathan Estruth.

3.  U.S. SENATE

Looks like Jim Renacci (rhymes with Stacy) is going to win the nomination.
The Donald has endorsed him.
His ratings by conservative organizations (check Votesmart!)
are rather mediocre, based on
his voting record as a U.S. Representative.

Also, when he was running for Governor
(before he switched to running for the Senate)
he chose a running mate who was about as leftist as anyone could find:
Cincinnati councilwoman Amy Murray,
who voted FOR a resolution honoring Planned Parenthood
and a resolution honoring a doctor who
encourages children to pursue gender transition surgery.
https://www.cincinnati.com/story/opinion/contributors/2017/12/18/murray-selection-confirms-what-we-knew-renacci-hes-no-conservative/961949001/

Mike Gibbons would probably be a much more reliable conservative.
Also challenging Renacci is Melissa Ackison.

I attended a candidate forum recently,
where both of these challengers of spoke.
I would be happy for either one of them to win the primary.
Mike Gibbons is well educated, and is reliably conservative.
Melissa Ackison is GREAT at "business street smarts"
and has VERY compelling stories to tell about
personal experience with Obamacare
and in business.
(She has no college degrees,
but is a much sought after business consultant.
She's gotten several corrupt CEOs fired.)
She debates like a piranha.
(She reminds me of Carly Fiorina debating.)
I would LOVE to see her tear up Sherrod (rhymes with Jared) Brown!

But it looks like we're going to end up with Renacci, anyway.
Ackison is probably the best candidate,
but has little funding, and is likely to finish in a distant third place.
Gibbons has a better chance to win the primary,
but is still a long shot.

Let's make Renacci's win as narrow as possible
to keep him from feeling complacent.
Let's let him know that we're watching him,
so he'd better KEEP his promise to support Trump in the Senate!
We need to keep reminding him a of
how much he is indebted to The Donald.

4.  ISSUE ONE

There is an issue on the Ohio ballot that would
replace the method by which Congressional districts are approved.
Currently, a simple majority in the Ohio legislature is enough.
Issue One would replace that with a committee
that would draw up the lines, ostensibly
to make the districts more compact
and follow county lines as much as possible.

The boundaries would have to be approved by
super majorities in the legislature.
Effectively, it would give the minority party
the power to filibuster the district boundaries.

A similar proposal was introduced in the Ohio legislature about fifteen years ago.
The Democrats (who held a majority then) rejected it.

Currently, Ohio has 12 Rs and 4 Ds in the U.S. House.
So passing Issue One would make it more difficult to hold that margin.

5.  U.S. REPRESENTATIVE, DISTRICT 10

Mike Turner (R) has occupied that seat for about 15 years.
He's kept the pork flowing for the whole time,
so he'll probably win easily.
Challenger John Mitchel is a rock solid patriot
and as much of a straight arrow as you'll ever find.

6.  BEST QUESTION FOR VETTING ALL CANDIDATES NATIONWIDE:

What is your assessment of the Mueller investigation?

The correct answer is something along the lines of,

"The Mueller team is a criminal organization that is
committing an act of war against the Constitution and the American people.
Mueller himself helped clear the way for
the Clintons to sell one fifth of America's uranium supply to Russia
by squelching the FBI investigation of the $100 million
that the Russians gave to the Clintons.
The entire team is filled with partisan political hacks
who should already be in prison
for numerous cases of prosecutorial abuse in previous cases."
(Look up "Licensed to Lie" by Sidney Powell.)

Any candidate that indicates in any way
that Robert Mueller or anyone on his team
has even the slightest bit of legitimacy
is unacceptable.

"Where there's smoke, there's a fake news smokescreen."

I am voting for Mary Taylor and Naathan Estruth.

Jim Renacci will also receive my vote.

We have a local war in Toledo in attempting to
put out Jon Stainbrook. In 9 years he hasn't
got a Republican elected.

Basically we have a marxist in charge of the local
Republican Party.

About 10 years back, there was an attempt to
displace him, and DeWine nixed the deal leaving
Stainbrook as head of the Lucas County party.
A disgrace.

I wrote DeWine a nastygram over the issue.

VoteSmart?

Endorsed by The NY Times, Bill Moyer and CNN.

Sounds like lefty recommendations.

No offense.

Finding a source with principles similar to your own is difficult.

In Toledo I found the Toledo Tea Party. They post much work
and have meetings on the 1-st Monday. About 2 blocks away.

Toledo has long been a democratic stronghold. That is why
in the past I was Secretary of the Toledo Area Republican Club.

I tired and left but.

I may change my vote to Gibbons

Thanks for starting this thread.

Lucas County GOP Chairman attacks decorated Vietnam War veteran

I referred to Stainbrook previously in this thread. Stainbrook needs to find
game full employment far removed from the Toledo Area Republican Party.

The following is the latest in his deceitful approach. What would you
expect from a turd.

ED NOTE – Please go to  Jon Stainbrook’s fake Facebook pages and SHARE this article there and also on your page,  You can see the list at the bottom of the article.  Thank you, Jenny
The Lucas County GOP Chairman, Jon Stainbrook,  has reached a new low.  Not only is he attacking his opponent Mark Wagoner in this political race,  he’s now doing personal attacks on decorated Vietnam war veteran John McAvoy.

This story begins when John McAvoy, a decorated Vietnam war veteran and popular activist for conservative and veterans group was asked about their groups endorsements of Mr. Stainbrook and candidates he recruited to run for Central Committee and other offices..
John McAvoy said:
“Alarm bells started sounding a few weeks ago when I started receiving e-mails and phone calls about candidates we supposedly endorsed…  I explained to people that we haven’t endorsed anyone yet and could they please send me a photo of the post card.”
Jenny Yloua said:
We contacted several candidates who supposedly received these endorsements and they didn’t know who the organizations where and said that Silas Tsang, Meghan Gallagher, and Jon Stainbrook had arraigned the endorsements for them.  To date, our e-mails and phone calls to Mr. Tsang, Mr. Stainbrook, and Ms. Gallagher have gone unanswered.
Mr McAvoy continues:
“I made attempts to locate and reach out to these groups to see if we could collaborate on conservative or veterans issues…  I’ve searched the internet, Facebook,  and Twitter.  I’ve found a couple Facebook pages,  but when I ask them about the organization,  I get banned from the page..”

This is one of the cards that Jon Stainbrook is sending out for his candidates.   These organizations don’t exist.
“When our Board of Directors looked at the names of these organizations, it appeared to be an attempt by the authors to deceive voters into thinking that two prominent Conservative organizations, the Toledo Tea Party and the NW Ohio Conservative Coalition  were endorsing Jon Stainbrook. We had this same problem several years ago when Mr Stainbrook sent out postcards with fraudulent endorsements on them, so this was starting to look like a repeat..”

This is the postcard Jon Stainbrook sent out in 2016. fake organizations and endorsements
The Facebook pages in question are named “Toledo area Tea Party” and” Lucas County Conservative Coalition”.  These get forwarded to the Facebook page Lucas County Conservatives
ED NOTE – We first uncovered these pages almost a year ago,  this prompted the creation of this web site “Stainbrooks Fake Facebook Page”.  At that time,  the people who created the fake Facebook pages failed to purchase the corresponding URLs,  so in order to lock them out, we purchased the URLs  www.lucascountyconservativecoalition.com and linked this site to them.
Jenny.

Mr. McAvoy said he learned of the personal attacks from candidates Mr. Stainbrook recruited.
“While attempting to nail down the false endorsement problem, I talked to many candidates that Mr. Stainbrook recruited.  According to these candidates, Mr Stainbrook had instructed them to not talk to me, and that I was a liar and could not be trusted. I lied about my military service, never flew airplanes, and the photo on my Facebook page was also a fake.  I don’t do anything but pick fruit for a living.”
“I have thick skin and learned many, many years ago to simply walk away from someone who spit on me and called me a baby killer.  As I walked away I’d say: ‘A simple thank you for your service would have been appreciated’. ”
But in this case,  Mr. McAvoy says a response is required to set the record straight.

“I have an extremely low tolerance level whenever someone trashes the service of a Military Veteran, and this one became personal.  So I hope Mr. Stainbrook takes notes”

“I served 9 years in the U.S. Air Force. I’ve been awarded many accommodations, including my tour in South East Asia where I received the Vietnam Service Award with two oak leaf clusters.  The last four years of my service I was honored to have been accepted to fly on the EC-135 Airborne Command Post aircraft.   (google ‘EC135 Looking Glass’).  I have a little over 2500 hours in that airplane.”
“After my discharge, I continued my service as a civilian contractor for a Government Agency..  I traveled around the world as a systems and software engineer,  I flew on highly modified aircraft and even did a tour on the  submarine USS Pintado..  (I now have a great deal of respect for the submariners)”
“After taking an early retirement,  I started a company call “Czech Jet, Inc”.  With my background and experience with Soviet aerospace systems,  this opportunity to assist with buying,  importing, training and maintaining a very inexpensive Soviet built aircraft here in the United States.    I traveled to the former Soviet Union and received factory training on the L39 /  Z aircraft, directly from the people who built it and flew it during the cold war.  I’m one of a handful of US pilots who hold a Type Certificate rating for this aircraft.

“The photo that Mr Stainbrook claims as being fake,  is of me in Greenwood Mississippi in the year 2000 in the instructor seat of the lead jet in a four ship formation..  My company was assisting with an educational seminar where we were teaching a class of students air combat maneuvering (ACM) and formation flying techniques. Sadly,  after 911,  the FAA changed the rules regarding how jet pilots can be trained, and the new rules forced my company out of business.”
“Unfortunately, in 2001 I needed to make a major life style change in order to take care of my ailing mother. With my experience in software and “HMI” systems,  a lifelong friend of mine asked if I would come to work for his company to modernize their computer and production systems.  Although I’m semi retired, this helped keep me busy and I enjoy the work.  I don’t pick fruit as Jon Stainbrook says when he tries to demonize my character in order to build his own.  I write and maintain software and systems. “
“As an activist, I also maintain software and webs sites for many conservative, self help, and Veterans groups in Ohio and across the nation. As an example of one of the web based tools that I wrote,  look at the tool used by  the Republicans for a New Lucas County PAC for showing Lucas County voters who to vote for on the May 8th election.  To create this tool, I received a copy of the Lucas County Voter registration database (freedom of information)  and loaded it on one of our servers.    I then wrote the software to search and display the database results to a user on their smart phone, pad, or laptop.(CLICK HERE)”
“To assist the RNLC team,  I also created several propriety tools that the RNLC is using to assist them and their candidates during the campaign.”
Mr McAvoy concluded by saying:
“HEY JON, NOT BAD FOR A FRUIT PICKER..”

CLEVELAND - Main Street Republicans prevailed in Ohio's rancorous GOP primary contests to replace departing U.S. House of Representatives members Jim Renacci of Wadsworth and Patrick Tiberi of the Columbus area.

Former Indianapolis Colt and Buckeyes football star Anthony Gonzalez - who benefited from a $300,000 ad buy from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce - triumphed over Ohio Sen. Christina Hagan and physician Michael Grusenmeyer for the Republican slot in the November race for Renacci's seat. Hagan's backers included Champaign County GOP Rep. Jim Jordan and groups like the Susan B. Anthony List.
