Attorney: Andrew McCabe's firing was 'deeply disturbing,' should make all federal employees fearful
by Katie Leach

The attorney for former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe’s says his client's termination was “deeply disturbing," unprecedented, and reason to make all federal employees fearful.

“I have never before seen the type of rush to judgment – and rush to summary punishment – that we have witnessed in this case,” former Inspector General for Department of Justice and attorney Michael Bromwich wrote in a statement Friday after it was revealed late in the evening that McCabe's employment had been terminated before his 50th birthday Sunday, when he intended to officially retire and get a full pension.

“The result of this deplorable rush to judgment is to terminate Mr. McCabe before his long-anticipated retirement and deny him of the full pension and retirement benefits he would have otherwise earned through his 21 years of devoted service to the FBI and this country,” he continued.

This firing was NOT done in a fit of Trump anger. It WAS done after a careful review found him in violation of both FBI policies, and US laws.

Martha Stewart went to prison for lying TO an FBI agent.

It is ALSO illegal for an FBI agent, to lie; which is the case with McCabe.

I hope it IS disturbing.  I hope a whole lot of federal employees/leakers and "not candid" types are very disturbed by it.

Cry me a river, Bromwich.   You have Flynn, losing his house trying to defend from the witch-hunt against him for merely being a Trump supporter... and then you have McCabe, who actually IS part of the deep state corruption and actually HAS done something (or a lot of somethings) wrong and broken US law (conflict of interest much?).
No quarter given to the enemy within...ever.

I agree.
Yes, it should.

The difference between that attorney and myself is... I believe it to be entirely justified that many federal employees become "fearful".

This is a good thing.
It is what we want to see.

It is necessary that such employees be "fearful" of behavior that goes against the people whom they are hired to serve...

Exactly.  The review of McCabe’s actions was done by FBI's Office of Professional Responsibility, staffed with career officials, not political appointees.  Michael Flynn and Rick Gates have already pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI.  The bottom line is don’t lie to the FBI no matter who you are: be it  another FBI agent, the National Security Adviser, or a campaign office for a Presidential candidate.  I think it’s good these liars are being held accountable.  Now, let’s “lock her up”!

I adore facts and data and abhor lies and liars.

Exactly right @truth_seeker

Sessions Statement:

Quote
"Pursuant to Department Order 1202, and based on the report of the Inspector General, the findings of the FBI Office of Professional Responsibility, and the recommendation of the Department’s senior career official, I have terminated the employment of Andrew McCabe effective immediately."

"After an extensive and fair investigation and according to Department of Justice procedure, the Department’s Office of the Inspector General (OIG) provided its report on allegations of misconduct by Andrew McCabe to the FBI’s Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR)."

The FBI’s OPR then reviewed the report and underlying documents and issued a disciplinary proposal recommending the dismissal of Mr. McCabe.  Both the OIG and FBI OPR reports concluded that Mr. McCabe had made an unauthorized disclosure to the news media and lacked candor − including under oath − on multiple occasions.

"The FBI expects every employee to adhere to the highest standards of honesty, integrity, and accountability. As the OPR proposal stated, 'all FBI employees know that lacking candor under oath results in dismissal and that our integrity is our brand.'"
