Wednesday, March 28th, 2018 Music Thread.... All Music Is Welcomed!

Well, we will check out some birthdays, it's Lady Gaga's birthday, superstar...
"Bad Romance":
! No longer available

I heard "Bad Poker" and "Born This Way" especially, a lot. Any contributions on Lady Gaga are welcomed. She sang the National Anthem very respectfully, she seems okay...

It is Reba's birthday, Reba McEntire, "Whoever's In New England":
! No longer available

It's Sally Carr's birthday, she sings for Middle of the Road, they had a '70s single that sold 10,000,000 copies, so one of the birthday links says there are not many singles like that.... with their hit, "Chirpy, Chirpy, Cheep, Cheep", it's like a children's song, I'm not even sure it was much of a hit in the USA. The band including Sally are from Scotland:
! No longer available

Honestly, her trademark were hotpants, so this is a bit of a toned-down version, filmed on some show in West Germany I believe.

It's the birthday of famed harmonica player, Charlie McCoy, here is one of his albums, I do recall seeing this back in the day:
! No longer available

Dave Keuning of the Killers, there album went #1 in the USA and UK in 2017. "Mr. Brightside"
! No longer available

Tete Montenliu hailing from Catalonia - Piano Bolero:
! No longer available

John Evan of Jethro Tull, apparently, before Tull, he had his own band, The John Evan Band.
! No longer available

Ged Grimes, Scottish band, Simple Minds, "Don't You (Forget About Me)":
! No longer available

Milan Williams, keyboards for the Commodores, "3 times a lady", Lionel Richie in this video too:
! No longer available

Alf Clausen, orchestra leader for tv shows such as the "Simpsons":
! No longer available

So, I've watched it from time to time, I'm not really in the know over there music.

Any additions are welcome, I feel enjoyment posting on some artists, bored with others, maybe grimace about others.

Birthdays today include Paul Whiteman, arguably the most popular jazz bandleader of the 1920s and the John Mayall of the decade,
considering how many stars-to-be served their apprenticeships or finishings in his band (Bix Beiderbecke, Jimmy Dorsey, Tommy
Dorsey, Bing Crosby, and others) . . .

Paul Whiteman and His Orchestra (with Bix and Der Bingle), "Changes"

. . . classical pianist Rudolf Serkin . . .

Beethoven: Piano Concerto No. 5: The Emperor; Rudolf Serkin, piano; The Philadelphia Orchestra; Eugene Ormandy, conductor

! No longer available

. . . Chuck Portz, the first bassist of the Turtles, who left after the group made its second album . . .

The Turtles, "It Ain't Me, Babe"

Of course, a lot of shortwave listeners, DXers, wrote to Radio Havana Cuba, letters back to Americans were often stamped by the US Post Office, "We meet the challenge".

That said, the Radio Habana Cuba jingle was absolutely beautiful:

@EasyAce

Fine contributions,  I know one member here, where this Shortwave (SW) was discussed a bit in the past...I have listened to Radio Netherlands definitely, I use to visit there website too for news.

I also listened to the shortwave from Japan (Radio Nippon), Taiwan (Radio Taipei) ... and mostly, some of the "Christian" Evangelical stations including Family Radio via their main man who I believe was Harold Camping, a bit of a controversial figure. I ended up making some penpals per the SW radio.

We'll try to put more jingles up or something, Radio Habana really wasn't much on the propaganda side, they'd talk about their island mostly.

Some radio jingles and themes with which I grew up . . .

The Blue Barron Orchestra with the Blue Notes, "Listen to Lacy" (WINS)

! No longer available

(That from the years before WINS went all-news some time in 1964. Jack Lacy's theme was so popular in New York it was issued as a single!)

The Four Seasons, "Cousin Brucie Go-Go"

! No longer available

("Cousin Brucie," Bruce Morrow, was friendly enough with the Four Seasons that the Seasons' chief songwriter, keyboardsman/vocalist Bob Gaudio, wrote that jingle, and the Seasons cut it for his prime-time WABC show in the mid-to-late 1960s. The Seasons did the job before original bassist/vocal arranger Nick Massi left the group in 1965, though he continued to work as their vocal arranger until 1971.)[/url]

One of my all-time favourites, from WMCA, before they became a talk and then religious station:

"Wake Up with WMCA"

March 29th Music Thread! All Music Welcomed

https://www.onthisday.com/music/birthdays/march/29
http://www.thisdayinmusic.com/search_result

Seeing a few birthdays,

Hillbilly Pianist, Moon Mullican, "I'll Sail My Ship Alone":
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RlrK8nuvodI" target="_blank" class="aeva_link bbc_link new_win">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RlrK8nuvodI</a>

Pearl Bailey, "St. Louis Blues", also, the 2nd video says she was appointed by President Nixon as an "Ambassador Of Love",
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kx6bVNiIs6A&amp;list=RDEMGp7pPsQBg9NguYQpxQsxSQ" target="_blank" class="aeva_link bbc_link new_win">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kx6bVNiIs6A&amp;list=RDEMGp7pPsQBg9NguYQpxQsxSQ</a>

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ucZJhDDRXcQ" target="_blank" class="aeva_link bbc_link new_win">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ucZJhDDRXcQ</a>

Moving on,

Irish singer Ruby Murray, I have heard a few of these songs,
"Softly, Softly":
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9z4_JqPhyGw" target="_blank" class="aeva_link bbc_link new_win">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9z4_JqPhyGw</a>

She also does a fine version of that song, "Goodbye Jimmy":
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WuLkSLEdsCM" target="_blank" class="aeva_link bbc_link new_win">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WuLkSLEdsCM</a>

Her last hit, #10 in the UK in 1959.

Astrud Gilberto who had the big hit with "Girl From Impanema", it seems everyone back then sang it...so maybe her's was among the first and she is Brazilian:
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3jrJ5mcCshw" target="_blank" class="aeva_link bbc_link new_win">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3jrJ5mcCshw</a>

"Desafinado" with George Michael!
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mr9QgAcFRiA" target="_blank" class="aeva_link bbc_link new_win">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mr9QgAcFRiA</a>

Ray Davis of Funkadelic and Chad Allen of the original Guess Who were born on this day, videos have been posted already in recent months.

Terry Jacks of "Seasons in the Sun" fame:
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-tPcc1ftj8E" target="_blank" class="aeva_link bbc_link new_win">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-tPcc1ftj8E</a>

Part of the earlier Poppy family with "Which Way You Going Billy", decent top 40 material, nice twang to it:
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hBbmD20FuSE" target="_blank" class="aeva_link bbc_link new_win">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hBbmD20FuSE</a>

Evangelos Papathanassiou known as Vangelis, with plenty of good music. I got one of his albums and it isn't even the famed "Chariots of Fire" (see below) music. I have that too. Inspirational.
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8a-HfNE3EIo" target="_blank" class="aeva_link bbc_link new_win">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8a-HfNE3EIo</a>

"Intergalactic Radio Station":
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dx3FPiHqG8U" target="_blank" class="aeva_link bbc_link new_win">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dx3FPiHqG8U</a>

Speedy Keen of Thunderclap Newman, the band that did "Something In The Air", I believe Tom Petty covered this as well:
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gBH_0Nqp61w" target="_blank" class="aeva_link bbc_link new_win">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gBH_0Nqp61w</a>

So, this is a lot already on the platter, I may add on later, it is also the birthdays of

Sue Foley, country singer, "positively 4th street"...back to the blues, so she sings Bob Dylan, right...
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WfAkbSxvbIs" target="_blank" class="aeva_link bbc_link new_win">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WfAkbSxvbIs</a>

and....

Lucy Lawless, none other than XENA: Warrior Princess!... So, maybe we will find something of her... they certainly made her one of the highlighted personalities of the day on the one website.

Lefty Frizzel, born Corsicana, was born on this day...big influence, Merle Haggard gave tribute to him and Hank Williams.

Lefty Frizzel, born in March, 31 1928, so really, just 9 years older than Merle Haggard (Born April 6, 1937-April 6, 2016). Lefty influenced Haggard who had a huge influence on country music in general.

Michael Murphy's birthday was March 14th,  I'm pretty sure, Geronimo's Cadillac and Wildfire were posted for him. I know that song has been posted previously so it must have been on his birthday
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Martin_Murphey    It was already posted but you already knew that.

The videos are slowly loading on this webpage or I would check.

April 2nd birthday, Leon Russel and other well known names... I may post that daily thread soon.

Consider me humbled @TomSea.  I am sorry you feel that way about me~unkind (that cuts kinda deep).  I am unaware of the instance where you were called anything.  I have no beef with you or anyone else here for that matter and I will take this opportunity to sincerely Thank You for all you do here in Music particularly AND in the World Cat, you bring so much and for that I am Grateful.

PS: I started up the Blues Channel so we would quit butting heads in here with my risqué Videos.  There is no ulterior motive here Tom, I do truly respect your views, even politically, in spite of our differences.

I don't profess to be a Christian, nor am I insinuating you do, but there is no animosity or hate for you or anyone here in my soul, not even Wingy or Frank, who give me a hard time here, and I'm sorry if you think there is.
I will work on that because I value your friendship.
