Erdogan to US: Get out of the way so we can kill Kurds

Turkey under Erdogan has long ceased to behave like a NATO ally.

​Over the weekend, the killing began in earnest.

Turkey used its U.S.-supplied fighter jets to bomb more than one hundred targets in the predominantly Kurdish province of Afrin in Northern Syria on Saturday, killing civilians and YPG fighters alike.

On Sunday, Turkish ground troops crossed the border, invading Syria.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has made his intentions abundantly clear, vowing repeatedly to crush the Kurdish-led democratic government in Afrin, on Turkey’s southern border.

But it was Erdogan’s threats last week to U.S. troops serving as advisors to Kurdish fighters in northern Syria that were the real show stopper.

"This is what we have to say to all our allies: don't get in between us and terrorist organizations, or we will not be responsible for the unwanted consequences," Erdogan said in a speech in Ankara.

"Either you take off your flags on those terrorist organizations, or we will have to hand those flags over to you, Don't force us to bury in the ground those who are with terrorists," he said.

In other words, Get out of the way, or you die.

Thanks, well, I don't know like some...

I was wondering why we might not give the Kurds some surface-to-air missiles.

Then, I saw a headline just this weekend, that on another front, not this in Syria, we were cooperating with Turkey. And I saw another story saying, if we abandoned Turkey, China and Russia would love to sell weapons to them.

It was reported also, that the Kurds also got cocky and said basically the same as "come and take it" to the Turks.

Also, there was a report that one of the missile strikes killed civilians. I don't trust all reports that come out from over there.

And other persecuted minorities in Turkey back then, Greeks and others too.

Did you know the Kurds have apologized for that genocide?  So that means they must have taken part in it as well against these peoples.

ISTANBUL (Marmara)—An influential Kurdish leader in Turkey, in an interview published on Sunday, acknowledged the Kurds’ role in the Armenian Genocide and apologized to the Armenians on behalf of the Kurdish people.

Turkish parliament member and the vice-president of the pro-Kurdish Democratic Society Congress Ahmet Turk said that in 1915 the Kurdish people had a large role in the torture and massacre of Armenians, Assyrians and Yezidis and, he as a Kurd, apologized to the Armenian people on behalf of all Kurds.

I've seen other such references. This is where it gets rather complex.

The "infamous" (or not) FSA, Free Syrian Army is aiding the main Turkish force in this operation.

In the 1910s, there were requests for the victims of genocide in that area by American charities. So the whole matter is complex and the posters are really fantastic works of art.

Note, in the poster, they call it the "Near East" and at the bottom it reads, "Armenia, Greece, Syria, Persia. They must be referring to refugees it occurs to me, fleeing Turkey per the 2nd poster below.



A lot of history I don't know about.





The event was very sad. That Americans (and British too, they have some posters) were opening their hearts and wallets for these people is moving.

My grandmother would always say to us when we ate too fast, something about acting like starving Armenians.  Now, it sounds funny odd and very sad.
