Sen. Graham Makes Pledge to Dreamers Amid Immigration Standoff

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R., S.C.), a key voice on Capitol Hill for mending what Democrats and Republicans see as a broken immigration system, has seen two presidents fail at passing sweeping immigration changes in Congress. He says he is doing all he can to keep President Donald Trump from becoming the third to come up short as well. Mr. Graham is the architect of a bipartisan Senate immigration plan that his Democratic negotiating partner, Sen. Dick Durbin of Illinois, said will be made available today, with a preliminary Senate vote to gauge support to follow “as quickly as possible.” Still, Marc Short, the White House director of legislative affairs, said it was unrealistic to expect an immigration deal to coalesce this week.
