There are times when I'd rather be with my cat than with anyone else. For one thing, our pets don't judge us. They don't care what we look like in the morning when we get up (or any other time of day either, for that matter). They don't tell us we're getting fat. They don't criticize us. Our pets love us unconditionally -- which is more than I can say about most people I know.
And I'm convinced they know when we aren't feeling well or depressed. They seem to instinctively want to comfort us in some way. My first cat would knead my stomach when I was sick. When I acquired a second cat, both of them would lie on either side of me on my sick bed and purr in my ears. There is something soothing about a cat's purr when you don't feel well.
Our pets are often our best friends and companions -- more so, than many people.
