It is still unclear how one border patrol agent in West Texas was killed last month and another seriously injured, yet President Donald Trump, Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, and the National Border Patrol Council have politicized the incident to call on additional security along the border, The New York Times reports.
Culbertson County Sheriff Oscar Carrillo, one of the first responders on the scene, told local media the incident could have been an accident, but the FBI is pursuing a theory two undocumented illegal immigrants involved in smuggling people, drugs, or both into the U.S., assaulted the agents.
