KITTERY, Maine (Tribune News Service) -- The U.S. Navy's submarines make up the stealthy, up-close-and-personal prong of the nuclear triad; prowling beneath the depths of the deep ocean for months at a time.
What is less known about this arm of nuclear deterrence is all of the logistical undertaking that goes into ensuring each and every submarine is seaworthy by being promptly called into port when any number of critical parts are scheduled for repair, replacement or upgrade.
