My brother had his appendix removed when he was a teenager. Back then we had an old fashioned family doctor -- the kind who still made house calls. The doctor came up to our house, took one look at my brother and said, get him to the hospital immediately. Brother underwent surgery, and the doctor told my parents if they had waited any longer, the appendix would have burst -- which could have been fatal.
