Maneuver by Russian fighter near U.S. Navy jet deemed "unsafe intercept"CBS/AP November 28, 2017, 10:09 AMBERLIN -- The U.S. military says a Russian fighter flew within 50 feet of a U.S. Navy reconnaissance jet over the Black Sea with full afterburners on, causing violent turbulence that knocked the American plane into a 15-degree roll. U.S. European Command Spokesman Juan Martinez said Tuesday the maneuver by the Russian Su-30 jet in front of the Navy P-8A on Saturday is being treated as an "unsafe intercept."Martinez said the P-8A was "conducting a routine operation in international airspace" at the time of the intercept. To knock a P-8 into a 15-degree roll requires pretty major air disruption. The P-8 is basically a 737ER airframe, IIRC.
I thought I had read in another report that the Russians action forced the P-8 pilot to make the roll maneuver to evade the Russians air turbulence.
A far more likely scenario.
I dont see a 737 needing to roll to avoid turbulence from a much smaller plane.
