Texas Congressman Joe Barton released a statement Wednesday apologizing for a graphic nude photo of him that circulated on social media earlier this week. He announced his re-election bid earlier this month.

"While separated from my second wife, prior to the divorce, I had sexual relationships with other mature adult women," he said. "Each was consensual. Those relationships have ended. I am sorry I did not use better judgment during those days. I am sorry that I let my constituents down."

The Twitter user who posted the naked shot and graphic text claims to also have several videos of Barton masturbating -- and tagged the Twitter accounts of President Trump and Sen. Ted Cruz. It's unclear if the tweeter is the woman to whom Barton admits sending the photos -- but the person claims he/she is being "harassed" by Barton.

One of Barton's Democratic challengers was more charitable, calling the issue a "distraction" from more pressing matters.

Jana Lynne Sanchez, a former journalist and now a small business owner, said that while “I don’t ever want to see a picture like that again in my life,” the Republican has apologized for “poor judgment.”

“I’m not going to get in the gutter and fight over personal behavior,” she continued, adding: “This is a distraction and we need to be talking about health care, education and jobs.”

His only purpose in hanging around is to grandfather the tax exemption on bonds issued for stadiums, specifically the new ballpark for the Texas Rangers. The authority for the bonds passed a year ago, but they haven't been issued. Under TEFRA, the interest is no longer tax-free.

The billionaire owners of the Rangers are looking to one last favor from Barton.

This is a huge shock to me.  I'm kinda familiar with the guy because I lived in Texas so long and I always thought he was a sweet, grandfatherly kind of guy and a conservative.

He was my congressman long ago (term#1) and has definitely became a casualty of the Inside the Beltway Washington disease.  Time to call it a career Joe and make the move over to K Street!
