  • RIP Blue, 2012-2020---my big, gentle friend.
I'm an old airliner buff. Shameless and unapologetic. And the most beautiful airplane I ever
saw was the Lockheed Constellation.

In the last couple of decades assorted groups have been restoring assorted Connies to
airworthiness . . . including the Columbine, Dwight Eisenhower's Air Force One. (Mamie
named the plane after her home state's state flower.) Here are a couple of vids of the
Columbine from 2016 . . .

. . . This is another Constellation, restored under the sponsorship of Switzerland's
Breitling watchmakers . . .

. . . and, here's a restored L-1049 "Super G" Constellation winding up . . . in classic TWA colours . . .

And, yes---one flight aboard a Constellation is on my bucket list!

It takes one helluva man to handle three pieces of tail at once.---Unknown Constellation pilot.
