When Should You Have a Benign Tumor Removed?
It's not cancer. But that doesn't necessarily mean you're out of the woods.

The word "tumor" is loaded with frightening possibility. Simply put, it's an abnormal growth of cells. It can be cancer – a malignant tumor. But in many cases, the growth is instead a benign, or noncancerous, tumor.

Everything from genetics to toxins in the environment to our diet can play a role in the formation of tumors. When a tumor is determined to be benign – understandably, it's usually a relief. We live with many imperfections in our bodies that never do us harm, and often benign tumors require no treatment. What's more, even where there are potential concerns, it's sometimes enough for doctors to simply keep an eye on tumor growth to make sure it isn't spreading – as would be expected with a cancer – or otherwise causing problems.

When it's killing you? My brother has a benign tumor which was growing around his brain stem, it drastically affected his cognitive ability, personality, vision and the things we take for granted like breathing, swallowing, seeing. He was told that he was at the point where if they did nothing he would die, the flip side being that if they did do something he might still die. He had the surgery but stroked out on the table, he was revived but there were grave consequences like sight only in one eye and of very narrow range, impaired use of one side, speech impairment and a changed personality. But hey he survived, except the part of the tumor remained and it is only a matter of time until it grows and succeeds in killing him.

November 6th.  I hope to be back and report better results than your brother.
