Special counsel Robert Mueller investigating Tony Podesta: Report
by Anna Giaritelli | Oct 23, 2017, 7:41 AM

Special counsel Robert Mueller has opened a federal investigation into the Democratic-leaning Podesta Group lobbying firm, and Tony Podesta, the brother of Hillary Clinton's former campaign manager, according to a report Monday morning.

The decision to focus on Podesta was born out of the probe into whether President Trump's campaign associate colluded with Russia, which is also looking into former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort's finances.

How do you say 'whoops' in Russian? Podesta Group retroactively files more DOJ disclosures for pro-Putin work
Washington Examiner, Aug 24, 2017, Emily Jashinsky

The Podesta Group belatedly filed several new disclosures with the Justice Department on Aug. 17 related to work the firm completed between 2012 and 2014 on behalf of a pro-Russia Ukrainian think tank.

Back in April, the powerful Washington lobbying firm run by Clinton ally Tony Podesta filed a document admitting its work for the pro-Russia European Centre for a Modern Ukraine may have principally benefited a foreign government. New disclosures revealed dozens of previously unreported interactions the firm made with influential government offices, including Hillary Clinton's State Department and the office of former Vice President Joe Biden, while lobbying on behalf of the center. Embattled ex-Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort failed to disclose his extensive lobbying efforts on behalf of the center at the time as well.

Anyone lobbying or doing public relations on behalf of foreign governments is required to register as a foreign agent in compliance with the Foreign Agents Registration Act. The Aug. 17 filings include short-form registration statements for six Podesta Group employees and an amendment to the firm's registration statement that includes a list of political contributions made by relevant employees throughout 2013.

No One Mentions That The Russian Trail Leads To Democratic Lobbyists
Forbes, Feb 18, 2017, Paul Roderick Gregory

<snip>

The media’s focus on Trump’s Russian connections ignores the much more extensive and lucrative business relationships of top Democrats with Kremlin-associated oligarchs and companies. Thanks to the Panama Papers, we know that the Podesta Group (founded by John Podesta’s brother, Tony) lobbied for Russia’s largest bank, Sberbank. “Sberbank is the Kremlin, they don’t do anything major without Putin’s go-ahead, and they don’t tell him ‘no’ either,” explained a retired senior U.S. intelligence official. According to a Reuters report, Tony Podesta was “among the high-profile lobbyists registered to represent organizations backing Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovich.” Among these was the European Center, which paid Podesta $900,000 for his lobbying.

That’s not all: The busy Podesta Group also represented Uranium One, a uranium company acquired by the Russian government which received approval from Hillary Clinton’s State Department to mine for uranium in the U.S. and gave Russia twenty percent control of US uranium. The New York Times reported Uranium One’s chairman, Frank Guistra, made significant donations to the Clinton Foundation, and Bill Clinton was paid $500,000 for one speech from a Russian investment bank that has “links to the Kremlin that was promoting Uranium One stock.”  Notably, Frank Giustra, the Clinton Foundation’s largest and most controversial donor, does not appear anywhere in Clinton’s “non-private” emails. It is possible that the emails of such key donors were automatically scrubbed to protect the Clinton Foundation.

As much as I want to investigate all those Dem clowns, is this within the purview? And wouldn't Mueller have a conflict of interest?

Mueller forced to investigate Tony Podesta
American Thinker, Oct 23, 2017, Thomas Lifson

NBC News, the friendliest MSM friend of the Resist crowd, was the chosen vehicle for leaking the news that Special Counsel Robert Mueller is investigating the Podesta Group and its principal, Tony Podesta. Although I am no lawyer, it is pretty clear that Mueller had no choice but to move against John Podesta’sbrother, and is using the situation to his best advantage.

Mueller’s mission was to get something – anything! – on Paul Manafort.  The strategic goal was to trade cooperation in nailing Trump for something -- anything! – for leniency on the charge they prove against Manafort.

The “anything” that Mueller came up with was registration under the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA). I remember seeing a nonprofit caught up in violations and let off with no jail for taking funding from non-government agencies that the feds claimed were acting as cats’ paws for a foreign government. But it can be a felony and carry 5 years in the federal pen. The only problem was that the vehicle they found to pursue Manafort unfortunately also implicated Podesta.

Absolutely there's a conflict of interest big time!!!! Nothing is going to become of these investigations folks.  Smoke and mirrors and another pony show at the Washington 3-ring circus!

"Forced to investigate" does not, in any form or fashion, equate to find anything!  Or even look for anything in reality!
"I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo.

"So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us."

That's why I don't want this to become yesterday's news. When enough people believe there must be something to it, when it's a campaign issue for the Dems, is when it must be addressed.
