There probably isn’t a parent on the planet who hasn’t wondered whether his or her young child has attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, best known as just ADHD. Face it. Little ones run around a lot, often don’t pay attention and may act without thinking of the consequences. The difference, the American Psychiatric Association notes on its website, “is that their hyperactivity and inattention are noticeably greater than expected for their age and cause distress and/or problems functioning at home, at school or with friends.”
