Conservatives in America – Like Marranos in Medieval Spain

For those unfamiliar with the term, Marranos was the name given to Jews in medieval Spain, especially in the fifteenth century during the Spanish Inquisition, who secretly maintained their Judaism while living as Catholics in public.

There is, of course, no Spanish Inquisition in America today – no one is being tortured into confessing what they really believe, and no one is being burned at the stake. But there are millions of Marrano-like Americans: Americans who hold conservative views – especially those who hold to conservative positions on social issues and those who voted for Donald Trump for president.

Millions of Americans who hold conservative and/or pro-Trump views rationally fear being ostracized by their peers, public humiliation, ruined reputations, broken families, losing their job, and being unable to work in their field. Under these circumstances, they have decided that coming out as conservative or pro-Trump is not worth the persecution they would.

In terms of the percentage of the population affected, there is no parallel in American history. ...

Some interesting thoughts.

But, given the intolerance and hatred on the left and its dominance over almost every area of American life, such an individual would have been a prophet.

Founders like Adams and Washington gave substantial warnings to us in their writings about maintaining virtue and religious principles in the culture in order to preserve liberty.

Now that virtue and religious principles have been discarded for the secular faith of the Marxist/Godless/Hedonist Left - why are we surprised that more than half the population goose-steps to Statism and the Pied Piper calls coming from demagogues in the Democrat party?  Iniquity abounds along with lawlessness and as such, those who hold to fundamental truths will be hated, scorned, ridiculed, mocked, persecuted and even eventually killed for those beliefs in a society that is now a Socialist Mobocracy.

It is why police now ask if you are a "Constitution nut" if you cite your rights when they are kicking down your door without a warrant.  It's why self-identifying Conservatives justify Civil Asset Forfeiture without charges or arrests in order to 'punish the appearance of criminality'. It's why despots like Nancy Pelosi respond with contempt to a question about where in the Constitution do they have authority to mandate Americans must buy a product and service they can fine and put you in prison for not purchasing.  It is why an ignorant population accepts the mantra of White Privilege and Black Lives Matter and tolerates mayhem in the name of 'social justice'.

In a Socialist Mobocracy governed by hedonists and tyrants, whispering your true beliefs if they are not in lockstep with the mob and the state, will earn you loss of an income, property, wealth and one day - your life.

Such is where we are headed - and such are the lessons of history that this people have ignored.
Fart for freedom, fart for liberty and fart proudly.  - Benjamin Franklin

...Obsta principiis—Nip the shoots of arbitrary power in the bud, is the only maxim which can ever preserve the liberties of any people. When the people give way, their deceivers, betrayers and destroyers press upon them so fast that there is no resisting afterwards. The nature of the encroachment upon [the] American constitution is such, as to grow every day more and more encroaching. Like a cancer, it eats faster and faster every hour." - John Adams, February 6, 1775

Yes, but in all fairness, you don't live in a leftist dominated place.

It wouldn't matter if I did... But the reason I live where I do is because it isn't leftist dominated. It is getting more so, and before long, I will be seeking a smaller town... Condon, Seeley/Swan, maybe Nirada or the Yaak. If I can't leave my keys in the truck and the doors unlocked on the house, I wouldn't want to live there. Damn near wouldn't be caught dead there.

So I don't really know if your statement is a part of the formula, or the sum total...

Professionally, I could be hurt pretty badly were my politics well known.  I commute - a long ways - because I don't want to also live in that kind of climate.
