Columbus Day has now become a rallying day for domestic terrorists.
Presumably, they are protesting Columbus because he opened the door for European immigration to the new world.
But someone was going to do it eventually. I really don't understand how you can achieve their goal of world unity without the initial unifier.
The most often listed reason for protesting Columbus is that he brought infectious diseases to the new world, which ended in the deaths of millions of new world natives.
But what is often not mentioned is that there is significant evidence that Columbus also introduced syphilis to the old world, resulting in the death of even more millions of Europeans.
It was simply an artifact of two distinct populations being exposed to new diseases.
It was going to happen. Would it have been different if the old world discoverer of the new world was black or asian? Of course it wouldn't have been different.
I have come to conclude that Columbus Day is simply a reason to protest, deface public property and commit violence as an act of confused purposeless anarchy.
