Rand Paul responds to Trump: 'I won't be bribed or bullied' into supporting Graham-Cassidy healthcare bill
by Al Weaver | Sep 22, 2017, 9:22 AM

Sen. Rand Paul responded to President Trump's Friday morning claim that the Kentucky Republican will be known as one of the senators who "saved" the Affordable Care Act if a vote on the Graham-Cassidy bill fails ahead of the Sept. 30 deadline.

Paul tweeted that while he supports repealing the ACA, Graham-Cassidy wouldn't do so. Then Paul took a shot at Trump, saying that simply labeling the bill a repeal effort "doesn't make it true." He added that he will not be "bribed or bullied" into supporting the bill as Sens. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., and Bill Cassidy, R-La., try to bring the final Republicans on board to back the legislation.

"No one is more opposed to Obamacare than I am, and I've voted multiple times for repeal. The current bill isn't repeal," Paul said, adding that he "won't vote for Obamacare Lite that keeps 90% of the taxes & spending just so some people can claim credit for something that didn't happen."

What does Rand support?   Seems like he always waits for other people to do something and then he jumps out and makes a show of opposing it.

He supports Rand!  His father was known as Dr. No so I guess that makes him Dr. No Jr.

"So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us."

I salute to the utmost that Senators Cruz, Cotton, Lee and Rubio are supporting this bill, upholding the Conservative value of the right to life.  :flag:

With respect to this topic, as far as I know, he's always said he supports repeal.

@driftdiver

Rand supports repeal, you know the same repeal bill the Senate voted for when they knew Obama would veto it. Paul is one of the good guys in the Senate and if he says the bill is a bad bill then the bill is a bad bill.

I stand with my senator on this one.

The farce is NOT a repeal bill at all.

It's the same exact crap the GOP establishment oligarchy tried to pull months ago.

This just brands ObamaCare with the Republican Seal of Approval, and does NOTHING to mitigate the death spiral into Single Payer the health insurance fiasco ObamaCare created.

Seems like it.  Now he's bragging he won't be bribed or bullied into voting for it.

I wonder who tried to bribe him?

I wonder if he could be reasoned into voting for it.

But Rand is like a lot of people on TBR ... whole cake or none.  Not even a crumb.

And that is the kind of mindset and acceptance of Communism that dooms us to being subjugated to tyranny forever.

I am so very glad those with this mindset of incremental negotiating with tyrants to get a little empty promise of liberty returned - did not prevail in the 1770s.

I am glad our Forbears went full cake or none - because until now, we have been beneficiaries of that insistence.

Now... we are happy to grovel at the feet of the muggers that have stolen our cake at gunpoint in the middle of the night, and beg them for a pittance of some crumbs from our stolen cake that we might satisfy ourselves with having crumbs instead of nothing at all.

Pathetic.  This is why we are doomed to tyranny; too many demanding everyone beg the muggers for a few crumbs of their liberty back.

Not really.  But some of us want all the improvement we can get on Obamacare.

It's damned clear to me that hitting a home run here is out of the question  so I'll settle for a single and hope for another turn at bat.

If this repeal fails, we need someone with guts to introduce a bill that negates the exemption of Congress and their staff.

And do it right before next year's election so everyone will be aware of the vote taken by their representative and Senator.

That is how one repeals Obamacare.

It's not a repeal.  It will fail.  McCain just announced that he ALSO won't be voting for it.
