The Washington Post reports that, although President Donald Trump and his staff were hesitant to campaign in Alabama for establishment-friendly Luther Strange, Swamp Republicans forced the president’s hand — fearing that a victory for Judge Roy Moore would motivate several allies to retire from the Senate rather than face Breitbart-backed challengers in 2018.

Who are these so-called allies?  I haven't seen any.

I wonder how much longer the republican party will continue to resist the wishes of its own base...

@skeeter
Respectfully I think you have a basic assumption incorrect.   You are thinking their base is comprised of the voters.

IMO their base are the special interest groups, lobbyists, and foreign groups that fund their "foundations".   They could give a crap about the average American.

Point taken. Hows this - how long will the GOP continue to resist the wishes of its own voting base an expect to remain viable?

Personally I believe their time is just about up. The establishment party has really shown its ass these past few months. The question remains what vehicle for the voters' collective will take its place.

I have a dream.... that GOP leadership will be tossed out on its ear and people like Cruz will be given the reins.  These RINOs need to go.  Hopefully this year so that there is time to get something done before the mid-terms.

I have that one too.

But its more realistic to expect the party leadership to hang on to power with both hands like the privileged autocrats they are until their voting base just stops participating in the charade and they're tossed out in general elections. Then something will fill the void.

That something is more likely to be a socialist then a Constitutional Republican at this point.

So...?
This is a GOOD THING!

Let 'em retire and get some new blood in there.

I'm looking forward to Judge Roy Moore in the U.S. Senate.
Wish I could vote for him.
