Special counsel Robert Mueller has asked the White House to turn over documents related to some of President Trump’s most controversial actions, including the dismissal of FBI Director James Comey, The New York Times reports.

Citing White House officials, The Times reports that Mueller is also interested in the circumstances surrounding the dismissal of Trump’s first national security advisor, Michael Flynn; as well as an Oval Office meeting with Russian officials during which Trump said that the Comey firing relieved “great pressure” on him.

He has also requested documents related to the White House response to media questions about a June 2016 meeting at Trump Tower between the president’s eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., and a Russian government lawyer promising dirt on Hillary Clinton.

His attempt to cover these requests by mentioning meetings with Russians comes across as very flimsy. This seems like a trap to either get Trump to assert executive privilege to start the media firestorm of obstruction and chants of Nixon, or land information well beyond the scope of the investigation to find other gotchas to whip up.

Requesting documents on everything and everyone related to Trump.... and all based on NO real evidence. 

Gee, it's just a darn shame that the Republicans can't get away with shredding, erasing, bleaching, destroying and eliminating requested and subpoenaed documents like the Democrats (Hillary) always get away with doing, eh?

It seems clear that Mueller is investigating potential obstruction of justice in the firing of Comey, as some legal analysts had speculated he would immediately after the firing occurred.

There is no way that charge would fly.... considering that Comey went on record saying that Trump was not being investigated and considering that Trump had every reason to fire Comey.  A partisan witch hunt is all Mueller has at this point.

If you're right, Trump has nothing to worry about relative to obstruction vis-a-vis the Comey firing.  I'm not an attorney, but several did opine that he might be susceptible to obstruction charges over Comey.

They aren't even trying very hard to keep up appearances of a legitimate investigation anymore. When confronted with conflicting information defenders of Mueller seldom bother to defend their bogus narrative directly, they just start shucking & jiving.
