In Australia, as Renewables Surge the Price of Electricity Doubles

The price of electricity is soaring in Australia largely because of mandated adoption of renewable power generation.

Yes, the price of renewable energy continues to fall, but mandating the installation of current wind and solar power technologies still boosts the price of electricity in countries pursuing decarbonization strategies as a way to mitigate climate change.

In an op/ed, "Green Madness: Australia Has Gone from Cheapest to Most Expensive Power," in The Australian, Flinders University economist Judith Sloan details what has happened to electricity prices as the government has enacted its Renewable Energy Target (RET) scheme.

Not a surprise.  My brother has lived in Adelaide in South Australia for many years. In spite of the prolific hydrocarbon
 Cooper basin within it, the state has decided to go full-renewable and gouge anybody and everybody they can in the pursuit of, what do they say, 'an environmentally pure power grid'.  Gee, they forgot to include in that statement 'and very expensive'.

Notice that Western Australia does not appear on the chart.  They have a tremendous surplus of gas.  All they need is to transport it to South Australia.  It is a long way, but guess what?  The states in Australia are far more autonomous than in the US, and they will not deal with each other.

The result of this madness is a lower standard of living for millions. And all without an upside. They are simply being cheated while making the green lobby wealthy.

Have visited Australia many times.  They are super-green.

It demeans them as their wealth is stolen, but apparently they go along with it in pursuit of some type of perfect earthy-culture.

Like going to Whole Foods and paying $3 for some organic apple.
