I doubt you will ever see a more spectacular picture of the eclipse than that!

Thanks Poly!

Heres a cool trick. You don't have to stare at the sun.. I just looked for 20 or 30 seconds, then when you look away the view is etched into your eyeballs. Problem solved!

I took some stills from my video. Cleaned them up a bit. You know me. Taped a lens from a pair of eclipse glasses over the camera lens. Then screwed two pieces of 2x4 in an "L" and screwed the back end down to the picnic table so I could rotate it. A ramp. Duct taped the camera to the stand and started recording.

Then watched it through another pair of eclipse glasses. And yelled and yelled some more and did the Snoopy dance at totality and diamond ring.

In the Washington D.C. area, the partial solar eclipse started at 1:17 p.m. Eastern and will peak at 2:42 p.m. It will move out of the city at 4:01 p.m., The Washington Post reported, lasting 2 hours, 43 minutes.

That image should have been taken when the eclipse was about the maximum for the D.C. area if the time stamp is correct--at about 81%

It wasn't a total eclipse here.  If it had been, he wouldn't be squinting.

Nor here (probably about the same as for D.C.). I probably could have snuck a peek but didn't bother. Used the old pinhole in a piece of paper trick.

It's okay then, he potentially could only burn out 19% of his retina.  :)

I bought five pairs of eclipse glasses. For $2 a pair. They are now for sale--with provenance--for $300 a pair.
