Art of the Deal co-author predicts Donald Trump is about to resign

The co-author of Donald Trump’s memoir The Art of the Deal has predicted the US President is going to resign by autumn if not sooner.

Tony Schwartz, who claims to have ghostwritten the 1987 best-selling business book, argued Mr Trump is on the brink of stepping down and said he would be shocked if his presidency lasts until the end of the year.

Mr Schwartz, who has been a vocal critic of President Trump and spent 18 months interviewing and shadowing him in the 1980's, suggested he would negotiate a deal for immunity in the Russia investigation in exchange for giving up his seat in the Oval Office.

He said: “The circle is closing at blinding speed. Trump is going to resign and declare victory before Mueller and Congress leave him no choice”.

“Trump's presidency is effectively over. Would be amazed if he survives till the end of the year. More likely resigns by fall, if not sooner.”

I have speculated he would not run again in 2020, but I think his view is a bit overstated.

I think you're right about that. I wonder how long those who work for him are willing to continue in damage-control mode.

I don't know anything about co-author or his level of credibility, but I'd hire 24/7 security if I were he. That last paragraph sounded like a threat.

Trump won't resign.  Why should he?  I agree that he won't run in 2020, or else will run, but will run such a lame campaign that he loses.  But he won't resign.

He hates being beaten. If he runs in 2020 it'll be to win. There's not a spinmeister on Earth that could turn being defeated as the incumbent into a victory for Trump.

I expected Donald Trump to be a good president and he has not disappointed.

Much of my knowledge of Trump, in addition to what I've read, comes from people who have known him decades.

Donald Trump is smart, works hard, learns fast, has a tough hide and doesn't speak a word of coherent English.
