Chicago files federal lawsuit claiming sanctuary cities threat 'unconstitutional'

August 7, 2017 Chicago—Mayor Rahm Emanuel has taken his fight against President Trump's immigration policies to court, with Chicago becoming one of the first cities Monday to sue the government over what many US cities argue are illegal bids to withhold public safety grants from so-called sanctuary cities.

The 46-page lawsuit was filed in US District Court in Chicago, a day after Mr. Emanuel announced the litigation and said the city won't "be blackmailed" into changing its values as a welcoming city. He argued it's unconstitutional for a city "to be coerced on a policy."

In Chicago, the judges had better do what the what the head gangster wants or they may wind up with "Clinton informant syndrome"    ( :doa:

In other words, the DOJ had better be prepared to take this all the way to the supreme soviet.

The feds have coerced cities and states through the withholding of funds for decades. Does anyone remember highway funds and the 55 mph speed limit?

Correct.   As it is,  the threat to withhold federal money is limited to grants under a specific federal program to help cities purchase new police cars.   $3.2 million out of a total Chigaco police force budget of close to a billion.   This is not overreach by the Trump administration;  I cannot believe that it is acting unconstitutionally.
