Trump donates second-quarter salary to Education Department

President Trump is donating his second-quarter salary to the Department of Education, the White House announced Wednesday.
 
White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders made the announcement during her daily press briefing, in front of television screens showing a photo of a $100,000 check signed by Trump.
 
Education Secretary Besty DeVos said the money would go toward hosting science, technology, engineering and mathematics camp for children at the department.

That's money out the window....so many deserving charities out there too!

Give to wounded vets or a local school for new playground equipment..anything but the Ed Dept...

Meh. He said he were donating his salary. He's donating his salary. Where to is entirely up to him - I ain't going to fuss about his picks. They're his choices, no one elses.

I have no problem with supporting STEM for children. It's important for the future of this country. There probably are better - and more efficient - ways to do it than through the US Dept of Education, though.

But EC is right - it's his money.

At times he's got to at least try to appeal to a wider audience.

Education camps can go one of two ways.  The good way helps fill the gaps left unserved by public schools.  The bad way is really bad.

Yes, crap.

Prediction: they'll run one camp with a bigger budget for the pastries for the department personnel in the morning than for the actual teaching of science and math. It will be a giant feel-good money sink with the camp personnel being hired from friends of the DOE's top administrators, and getting paid very healthy sums for 2 weeks of "instruction."

Meanwhile, that $100k could fund a science teacher instructing 30 students for the whole year at the state level.

The federal government is, by nature, a wasteful piece of crap organization. Trump put as much thought into this as he does his tweets.
