A U.S. Navy ship fires warning shots at an armed Iranian patrol boat in the Persian Gulf.
Defense officials confirmed the incident happened earlier Tuesday as the Iranian boat approached and came within 150 yards of the Navy ship.
They believe it was being operated by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps.
The Iranians reportedly didn’t respond to any warnings including radio calls, the firing of flares, and warning sirens.
Officials say the Navy fired shots out of concern for a collision.
The incident came as several Navy ships in the area were conducting routine patrol operations.
