Time to settle immigration debate, once and for all

The New Mexican Jul 22, 2017 Updated 6 hrs ago (0)

The Trump administration is being pressured to eliminate a policy that protects undocumented immigrants who came to the United States as children.

The Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, or DACA, started in 2012 under then-President Barack Obama, an administrative remedy put in place after the House failed to pass the Development Relief and Education for Alien Minors (DREAM) Act. Dreamers, as they have become known, are adults brought here as children who, really, know no other country as a home. They are Americans, if not by birth. When Congress failed to act, the president did, proving once more that legislation is preferable to executive actions. Laws generally have broader support and remain long after a president leaves office. Actions can be reversed, as we have seen, with the stroke of a pen.

No, they are not.
They are foreign nationals.
The fact that they may have been brought here "at an early age" DOES NOT make them Americans.
They are -- again -- foreign nationals who did not have permission to enter the United States legally.

Otherwise known as... illegal aliens.

Sooner or later, y'all are going to have to deal with the reality that most people are not going to agree to deport these people.  That is the reality, and it won't change.
