WATERLOO — The 75th anniversary of the deaths of Waterloo’s five Sullivan brothers during World War II is being remembered later this month by a group of current and former military personnel on RAGBRAI, the Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa.

And a Sullivan family member is riding with them.

Retired sailors Ben Gaumer of Indianola and Craig McDonald established the RAGBRAI team “Team Navy” 15 years ago. The team began simply as a personal and physical challenge with about six riders, but soon morphed into a representation of retired, Reserve and active Navy, Marines, Coast Guard and Merchant Marines with nearly 40 riders.

Outstanding.

WWII is quickly becoming irrelevant history to far too many Americans.

BTW someone needs to write a screenplay telling the story of what happened in the waters around Guadalcanal 12-13 Nov '42. Hollywood couldn't create a fiction with more drama. John Wayne didn't do it justice.

Just a bit more on this.

Event seems basically non-competitive, charity-type of ride. I've ridden a few charity rides.

Some charity rides though, do have a competitive section for those who want to get down and race.

RAAM is the Ride Across America, it has been very competitive.

Team Navy seems to be a loose affiliation of members. Almost seems to be a boy in the front row. The articles explain it.
