Campus Reform recently took to the streets of Washington D.C. to try to gauge the opinions of college students about the increasingly popular form of government imposed by some of histories most notorious mass murdering despots: socialism. To the surprise of no one who watched the stunning success of an obscure septuagenarian senator from Vermont in the Democratic primaries, most of the students Campus Reform talked to were big fans of socialism, which they agreed would "really benefit our country." The only problem is that the same students who were so clearly amped up about installing the preferred political system of Che Guevara and Joseph Stalin were less clear about what socialism is. In fact, most had no idea how to define it whatsoever.

Being neither an English, nor Journalism major, I am often hesitant to correct others, but

"....by some of histories most notorious mass..."

should be

"...by some of history's most notorious mass ..."

right?

Apparently contemporary journalism is too much related to agenda, and too little related to proper writing.

Editors and proofreaders are largely things of the past.

You are correct on all points, @truth_seeker.

Either gubmint money...or someone elses. Of course that is redundant, isn't it, lol.

One of my brothers is a huge lib with a low paying job (he's a musician...so at least he does work...no offense to any musician on this site).

His idea is that all "rich" people should share the wealth with poorer people. He isn't even very original in his thoughts.

So I played along with his drivel and told him that was a stellar idea. So I was sure that he would be willing to share part of his $7.00 per hour with someone making $5.00 per hour. His only response was...sputter, sputter, sputter.

Of course this conversation was some time ago as you can tell given the wages we discussed. And we don't discuss these things any longer. It keeps peace.  I do respect his musical ability. ^-^

You might be surprised how many people don't know that gubmint money comes from working people.  They actually believe the gubmint just prints however much money it needs.

Then there are those who, if you ask them if its'fair that  someone else is paying for their free stuff, they just shrug.  Really don't care as long as they are not the ones paying.

We live in a world of selfishness.  And most of that selfishness was encouraged by our last president.

I wonder how many people here, at TOS, or in the general public, could define Socialism, on the streeet, without looking it up.

I can't define it but I know it when I see it.  And lately it has  looked a lot like the Rat Party

I agree with you @Applewood . I don't think Civics is taught in school any longer...or not the way it should be. So people understand how things work. And they probably wouldn't care anyway.

The freeloaders are taking over and will eventually sink us. I don't even blame this on minority voters. I think it a mindset. But truthfully it predates the last president. Look at the '60s and LBJ. At least FDR demanded some participation (social security) to get the benefit.

If you've seen any examples of writing by college students lately - even English and journalism majors - you'll know that very few know even the most rudimentary rules of grammar. Get your hands on a campus newspaper some time. You'll sprain your neck shaking your head in dismay.

Put some glasses on, Nut.
If you look at the "Rat party" clearly, it looks more like....  communism.

Moreover, many people (mostly Dems) truly believe that the rich do not pay any taxes.  I had a close friend who insisted the rich paid no taxes.  When I told him how much the top one percent pays (40%) of the federal income tax load and the top ten percent (60%), he simply refused to believe me.
Because they want to believe the lies told to them by their Dem masters.  They want to believe they're victims.
And since, according to what they believe, if the wealthy pay no taxes, they are perfectly correct in extracting money (by force if necessary) from the wealthy.
The millennial generation might be the  smartest as far as knowing about and using high tech gizmos, but they're probably the most ignorant about how the American economic system works.
It would be interesting to mention Venezuela to these ignoramuses and see how many know what you're talking about.
