Self-fueling boat sets off from Paris on 6-year world trip
July 15, 2017

Energy Observer will use its solar panels, wind turbines and a hydrogen fuel cell system to power its trip. The 5 million-euro ($5.25 million) boat heads off Saturday from Paris toward the Atlantic.

A pleasure craft only.

Once they make this work for cargo ships, it is nothing to pay attention to.

Three or four days of stormy weather will leave it dead in the water. They also should have included a sail......

I've been working on this idea as well.    Perhaps I can get some sponsors to fund my world wide travel for the next 10-15 years.

name it Gaia, paint it green, put a pinwheel on a stick on the front and a token PV panel on the back, and they'll be falling all over themselves to finance you.

It has wind generators and a kite sail.

Heck I'd have a small panel anyway.  Its a good way to keep  your gear charged.

Surprised Saint Elon isn't looking for a way to bilk some marks and a government out of some investment money on this kinda thing.

The wind generators will have to shut down when the wind is blowing too fast. Same for the kite sail. They still do not have a means of directly using the wind to move, which is a sail on a mast.
