Colt 1911 9MM
« on: July 04, 2017, 10:52:41 pm »
Decided to try and pick one of these up.   I like my 1911 22 Trophy so well I thought WTH.

Specifications:
Colt Competition Government 1911
Caliber: 9mm (reviewed) or .45 ACP
Barrel Length: 5 in., 1:16 twist
Overall Length: 8.5 in.
Weight: 36 oz. (unloaded)
Grips: Blue G10 Checkered with Scallop
Sights: Novak Front Fiber Optic, Novak Adjustable Rear
Action: Single Action, Semi-Auto
Finish: Blued
Capacity: 9+1
Price: $899

What do you think a lightly used one could be had for.  Not going to pay MSRP for new one.

I wouldn't think you'd find many used ones. It's only been out a couple of years.

If you absolutely have your heart set on a Colt, that' one thing. If not, check these out: http://www.gunbroker.com/item/662773588https://www.classicfirearms.com/star-model-super-b-9mm-semi-auto-pistol

I have two in 9 Largo and I love them, but these are 9X19 (9mm parabellum/9mm) and a LOT cheaper than the Colt.

Same heft and feel as a 1911.

Well there is that.  I saw one for 469.00 .  It was 60 miles away.

The used ones go for almost the price of a new one from what could find.

This would make a good alternative however: http://armscor.com/firearms/gi-series/gi-standard-fs-9mm/

Thanks!  I hate the grip but that is probably an easy swap.

Yeah they are standard 1911 grip panels...easy to swap.

You can also get that one in .38 Super as well.

@Wingnut

Since a 9MM is widely considered to be a "45 ACP set on stun",it's going to be tough to find one.

If you are dead set on avoiding the best chambering,45ACP,shoot for the stars and look for a 38 Super.

Add to that more shots in magazine.

When you look at places like SG Ammo they have 1,000 rounds loose in a box for $135...kinda hard to find much cheaper than that.

I picked up 200 rounds of Monarch steel casing 9mm ammo about a month ago at Academy for $35.

@Wingnut

Ever consider reloading? I used to shoot a BUNCH of 45 ACP's up,and never had less than 4 or 5 hundred empty cases and loaded rounds laying around all the time. 200 grain wadcutters aren't that expensive when you buy 1,000 or so at a time,and the powder and primers don't cost very much,either.

Use to reload 16 gauge shells when I was younger.   No desire to play with brass.

@Wingnut

Maybe get up with a buddy that reloads one weekend,and give it a try? It's simple and fun for the anal,and I have yet to meet a shooter that isn't anal about his guns.

Actually, I have loaded shotshells (12 and 20 ga.) and a half dozen calibers of rifle and pistol. The brass is easier imho than the shells were. Give it a try.
