In Syria and Iraq, the Kurds and the United States military have forged a particular kind of special relationship.
It is a mutually beneficial relationship linked by both parties’ reliance on special operations forces – commonly called SOF in military circles.
Whether it is the on-going siege of Mosul or the recent battle for Raqqa, the war against Daesh is fought by a coalition that includes not only a large contingent of Kurdish fighters such as the Peshmerga and YPG but also U.S. special operators.
