Donald Trump's Mexico wall might use solar panels to cut costs

That way, the controversial wall "pays for itself" thanks to solar energy.

Donald Trump told supporters Wednesday that the controversial planned wall dividing the US and Mexico could be built using solar panels.

"We're thinking about building the wall as a solar wall, so it creates energy and pays for itself. And this way, Mexico will have to pay much less money, and that's good, right?" Trump said at an Iowa rally, according to the BBC.

Without the government subsidies, solar panels can't generate enough energy over the lifetime of the equipment to even pay for the capital outlay to put up the panels.  Then add to it the transmission infrastructure, maintenance, etc, and this will make the wall more expensive, not less.
