DERBY LINE, Vt. -

An international gun smuggling scheme allegedly went right through a library that straddles the U.S.-Canada border.

Federal prosecutors say Alexis Vlachos of Montreal was brought to Vermont to face charges after he allegedly took 100 guns across the border into Canada.

Authorities say the Haskell Free Library was the key drop off point. The library sits on the international border with half the building in Derby Line, Vermont, and the other half in Stanstead, Canada. The library's entrance is in Vermont and Canadians can visit the library without going through a port of entry.

Prosecutors say Annette Wexler and a co-conspirator bought the guns in Florida, hid them in a backpack and left them in the bathroom at the library six years ago. Vlachos allegedly picked up the guns and exited into Canada without going through customs. Vlachos denied the charges in court. Wexler pleaded guilty and will be sentenced next month.
