Insurance companies blacklist ridehsaring in New York
« on: June 17, 2017, 04:32:41 pm »
Ridesharing services are set to be legalized in upstate New York, the last area of the United States where it was not yet legal, at the end of this month. However, there is one major problem.

Almost all of New York's licensed insurance companies refuse to cover the necessary insurance required for a person to offer ridesharing, and any person wishing to make money through it must buy taxi driver's insurance, which runs in the thousands of dollars. The internal insurance policies that major ridesharers Uber and Lyft provide are not offered in New York.

WHEC has the full story.

The insurance system, in all of its facets, is a scam.

On a national or global scale, insurance is a huge issue. Uber's founder and top officer, is going on an indeterminent leave. Top management is under much criticism for work climate.

Riders have Lyft to pick, and Uber might just take a tumble.

All this, before the insurance topic kicks in.

When drivers renew their Personal vehicle insurance policies, it is increasingly likely they will be required to stipulate, the vehicle is NOT used for commercial purposes, like hauling people or goods.

When the driver sees he is NOT insured, for such activities it is possible many of them will give it up, rather than purchase prohibitively expensive extra policies.

IOW just what the taxi companies lobbied the insurance companies, to do. It is a questionable business model in the long ru.

Uber has never made a profit.

However, many people still deliver pizzas with the same insurance issue.
