What do you guys think of Trump's approach to managing the military? From this article, it shows that Trump has put a lot of faith into his Secretary of Defense Gen. James Mattis in order to make sure things go smoothly. Compared to the past two presidents. We all know Obama hated the military and so he micromanaged his generals way too much. He booted them out when they did something he didn't like. Trump's approach appears to be much different.

So far, I approve of Trump on the military side of things. He's not really put a foot wrong - listens to the people who know what the hell is going on, calls a hard shot if needed, and makes it very obvious he supports the troops.

His almost deference to the military could be a cause for concern about undue influence of the military in the civilian role of government - but not while Mattis is at the wheel. He don't stand for that crap and is, for a general, surprisingly unambitious.

(Just don't get me started on the diplomatic side ....  :tongue2: )

I, too, approve of the way Trump has handled the military since he's been elected with regards to Syria & North Korea. He wants to show that we no longer have a weak leader and that the United States is a forced to be reckoned with. Its just great having a Commander-in-Chief & Vice President who truly have a heart for the men and women who serve in the armed forces. I greatly respect Trump in that regard

What the hell is to not like? (except here, that it is Trump of course)

Conservatives have argued since Vietnam, to give the military the resources and authorization, to get the job done.

My concern would be if Trump became involved. Mattis was a good choice.

I suppose Trump's personal Vietnam experience left him scarred...

Not that I'm aware of. He certainly didn't claim to know more than the military brass.
