Italian news just called it a landslide in one segment, then declared the likelihood of a coallition 20 seconds later.  *****rollingeyes*****

Polls  close at 22:00 BST.
First results are usually announced by about midnight, the election is usually called about 4 AM and all results are usually in by 8 AM Friday.

So you think that will still be a good time table?

Networks always try to infuse drama where there isn't, to try to keep viewers.

The BBC wouldn't do that!

Think so. There's no local election votes to tally, so the counting will be quicker than it's normal glacial pace. Traditionally a couple of wards in Sunderland are the first to report. They're aiming to report and certify before 23:00 if possible.

Karl Rove moonlighting in the UK?

I've heard some say this is a reaction against Brexit.

Tony Snow?  That's a strange coincidence.  Our Tony Snow over here was a well liked conservative pundit.

First two results in and confirmed. Both Labour holds and about as shocking as a dead battery.

Interesting observation re exit polling:

Tom McTague

@TomMcTague

If exit poll is as wrong nationally as Sunderland and Newcastle May could still get a 80-100 seat majority, Peter Kellner says. SAY WHAT?!

Glimmer of hope for Tories: First REAL results contradict stunning joint-TV exit poll of 30,000 people suggesting the PM's election has backfired and Britain is on course for hung Parliament
Daily Mail/UK, Jun 8, 2017

Theresa May was handed a lifeline by early election results tonight as they cast doubt on a stunning exit poll that predicted a hung parliament.

The forecast of today's election results suggested a catastrophic loss of seats for the Conservatives that would leave Mrs May teetering on the brink of being booted out of power. The Tories were said to be on track to lose 16 seats, leaving them on 314 seats and well short of a majority, while  Labour was up to 266.

But early actual results sparked the extraordinary sight of two experts saying that the Tories could defy the forecasts and end up with a majority of up to 100.

Missus has the Italian news on - they're hyperventilating over everything (so, being stereotypical Italian  :tongue2: ) at the moment. Italy has been casting eyes at the exits too, so they're invested in the idea of the election here as a temperature check on Brexit.

Confirmed results so far - Labour 4, Conservatives 1. All holds in safe seats that weren't expected to change.

She's safe. Her seat is rock solid Tory.

Latest confirmed: 10 Labour, 5 Conservative. All expected holds.

Assuming she holds her seat, not doubt. Next she is reelected Prime Minister by her Parliament colleagues,  by taking all Conservative votes plus enough from other parties to get over 50% ? Coalition ?

Or does the Conservative Party merely need to have the most seats, to reelect her ? Plurality ?

Thanks in advance, for a lesson about Parliamentary systems.

She's going to be PM if the conservatives win 326 seats or more. Same with Corbyn, if Labour pull of the impossible. Leadership elections are a different kettle of fish and don't involve the public at large at all - only registered party members get a vote on party leader.
While it is obligatory on penalty of a fine to register to vote, registering with a party is completely voluntary.
