Folks should read the article, I did not know the band Steam was basically a "fake" band (if that is what the article says, I don't want to misstate the situation); also, I thought maybe the chant was used at games before but apparently, the co-writers came up with it.

Stumbled on this facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/GaryDecarloSteam

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steam_(band)

Rest In Peace
There were plenty of those types of bands back in the 60s and 70s: made-up studio bands with anonymous identities. There were quite a few singers (Joey Levine, Tony Burrows, Ron Dante) who sold quite a few records as lead singers of fake groups like that.

Re: Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye

That song always bothered me because the first half of its first verse blatantly ripped off Jerry Butler's "He Will Break Your Heart" (later covered by Tony Orlando as "He Don't Love You"):

She certainly sang an extensive number of songs, not just the hits we know.

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YMlALAaEwfA" target="_blank" class="aeva_link bbc_link new_win">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YMlALAaEwfA</a>

In the early '90s, Great Britain had a tv show entitled "Lipstick on your collar". A drama, soap, there is some of it on youtube.

She has sung songs geared towards the Italian, Spanish, German, French and the Israeli market.  She even sang in Japanese, I'd be curious how that came off.  She has an album with Hank Williams Jr. (  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Connie_Francis_and_Hank_Williams_Jr._Sing_Great_Country_Favorites  ) of all folks and sang with Marvin Rainwater, another country singer.  I don't know for sure about Como, Sinatra or Dean Martin but it seems like some of the crooners sang about everything.  It almost looks like overkill on singing but these are different times.

She even sang a number of patriotic type songs. I have her bio.

Neil Sedaka wrote or co-wrote her hit, "Where the boys are" which was for a movie.

A few of the songs look like they might be best left unheard of though.

Even that "Na Na Na Hey Hey Goodbye" song is listed as Connie having sung it but I don't see it on youtube.

Anyway, a fine American artist.

A couple random golden oldies for today:

"The Devil In Mrs. Jones" by Jerry Butler
This piece plays on two iconic 1970s hits: the art-porn movie The Devil in Miss Jones and Billy Paul's hit song Me and Mrs. Jones. While this song not a particularly big hit at the time, I personally think it should have been. Take a listen and decide for yourself.

"You Make Me Feel So Young" by Frank Sinatra

"Agadoo" by Black Lace
Just a silly little ditty, because we always need silliness every once in a while.

Another birthday boy: Leroy Anderson, composer of what we native New Yorkers remember as the theme
for local CBS's television movie shows The Early Show, The Late Show, and The Late Late Show . . .
(which used Percy Faith's version, what a shock, since Faith happened to record for Columbia Records . . .)

More musical birthdays: Bernard Herrmann, who wrote music for a passel of old-time radio programs including
Suspense . . .

. . . Roger Ruskin Spear, saxophonist for the Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band . . .

1943 Florence Ballard, rocker (Supremes), born in Detroit, Michigan

Ballard expressed dissatisfaction with the group's direction throughout its successful period. She would also claim that their schedule had forced the group members to drift apart.[24] Ballard blamed Motown Records for destroying the group dynamic by making Diana Ross the star.[24]

On this day:
Nine people are crushed to death at a Copenhagen Pearl Jam concert. People push forward because they can't hear due to broken speakers. Vocalist Eddie Vedder tells the audience to move back but to no avail. 2000

President George Bush meets with Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi, a major Elvis Presley fan, at Graceland in Memphis. The PM is given several souvenirs, eliminating any chance of reducing the huge trade deficit the U.S. has with Japan. Next time, make the PM buy the DVDs of Clambake and Viva Las Vegas! 2006

Following a difficult show at the Denver Pop Festival (police firing tear gas into the audience and a narrow escape) bassist Noel Redding announces his departure from the Jimi Hendrix Experience. He is replaced by Jimi's longtime friend Billy Cox. 1969

The story of Florence Ballard---who started the project that became the Supremes when they were girls living in
the Brewster-Douglass projects in Detroit---has been told in a dignified way in Nelson George's Where Did Our
Love Go? The Rise and Fall of the Motown Sound
.

File this under better late than never, and if I'm repeating myself no apologies because this stuff is that good,
but here's belatedly discovered proof that there was excellent life after the J. Geils Band for its late namesake
(and underrated) guitarist and its harmonica virtuoso . . .
