Saturday music thread, all are welcome, all music is welcome.

1930, Born on this day, Cliff Gallup, guitarist, Gene Vincent and His Blue Caps, (1956 US No. 7 & UK No. 16 single 'Be-Bop-A-Lula'). Gallup died of a heart attack on October 9th 1988.
Cliff Gallup only played on around 2 of Gene Vincent's releases but became highly esteemed among guitar players.  He basically went from the music back to a "normal life".

A real Gene Vincent tribute act by Ervin Travis; pretty amazing emulation of Cliff Gallup's guitar on "Crazy Legs", Travis even sings like Vincent who got injured in the leg in the Navy; and must have had a bit of a gimp. Over there, UK and the continent, Vincent might be as popular as someone like say Elvis or Buddy Holly. Seems like it. Travis got lyme disease a few years ago. I don't know how he has fared since. From France.

1954, Guitarist Danny Cedrone died following a freak accident; 10 days after he had recorded the lead guitar break on 'Rock Around the Clock' with Bill Haley and His Comets. Session player Cedrone was paid $21 for his work on the session, as at that time Haley chose not to hire a full-time guitarist for his group. He died of a broken neck after falling down a staircase.

I might have vaguely heard this about Danny Cedrone, I really did not know the story.  RIP.

What is interesting is I looked up "George S. Clinton", it appears to be a different person.

The one who was in Parliament:

Quote
George Clinton (born July 22, 1941) is an American singer, songwriter, bandleader, and record producer. His band Parliament-Funkadelic (which recorded under the names Parliament and Funkadelic) developed a form of funk music during the 1970s and early 1980s that he termed P-Funk.

That caught me too, I have some Parliament.  No harm in posting Parliament, as for George S. Clinton:

Red Foley was born today as well; per a few days ago, the Shrine of St. Cecilia, Red Foley released this one as well which has I believe Doo Wop and other versions too.  I believe this was released after his commercial successes and he got a bit religious. Red Foley was Pat Boone's father-in-law.

Elvis Costello has a birthday in a couple of months, and his debut album to me is kinda up there with some of the Best.

Elvis Costello

Declan Patrick MacManus (born 25 August 1954),[6] better known by his stage name Elvis Costello, is an English musician, singer-songwriter, and record producer. He began his career as part of London's pub rock scene in the early 1970s and later became associated with the first wave of the British punk and new wave movement that emerged in the mid-to-late 1970s.[7][8] His critically acclaimed debut album, My Aim Is True, was released in 1977.

Lest we forget:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gTUcT9IpftE

All are welcome along with their music.  So, this does not just need to be whose birthday it is.

The below links seem to all splash one group today.

It is interesting; historically:

1948, Columbia Records started the first mass production of the 33-RPM long player. The new format could contain a maximum of 23 minutes of music per side versus the three minutes that could be squeezed on to a 78 RPM disc. - http://www.thisdayinmusic.com/

So, I've heard a few 78s, 16s, 45s; and here, this is about the 33s.

http://www.thisdayinmusic.com/born_today
http://www.onthisday.com/music/birthdays.php
http://www.thisdayinmusic.com/

There are likely 50 songs or more, one could make the highlight here with this first artist who needs no introduction, so I'll just stay simple here with one song for the first highlight. Anyone can feel free to add in their favorite.  I've pursued listening to Sir Paul's music and probably still haven't heard over half of his solo work.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Boemebb8P_s

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pBM8wQu_7q8
Well, I did add in a 2nd, he always does this one live it seems and it tends to be very good.

Quote
1953, Born on this day, Jerome Smith, guitarist, KC and the Sunshine Band, (1975 US No.1 single 'Get Down Tonight', 1983 UK No.1 single 'Give It Up'). He died on August 2nd 2000 after being crushed by a bulldozer he was operating.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZnbChGxN5eI

So, a full platter of songs today.

Leaving artists if others want to post their music, I decided I was getting all of the good ones.

Ricky Gazda of Southside Johnny and the Jukes, bassist Carl Radle of Derek and the Dominos also were born on this day.

The gig in Petersburg, Russia, was McCartney's 3,000 concert appearance. He had performed 2,535 gigs with the Quarrymen and The Beatles, 140 gigs with Wings and 325 solo shows.
