Are You Addicted to Your Smartphone?
How to tell if it's become your BFF

Friday, May 19, 2017

FRIDAY, May 19, 2017 (HealthDay News) -- As great as smartphones are, you can get too attached to the gadgets.

According to experts at the Cleveland Clinic's Center for Behavioral Health, cell phone overuse can be just like any other kind of addiction. And here are two warning signs: your smartphone is interfering with your life, and you get withdrawal symptoms when you try cutting back.

Ask yourself these questions to check on the health of your relationship with your phone.

I leave mine in the car when I go to work. I check it again at 10:30 or 11 when I get out.

I confess to suffering from this malady.

Nope. I ain't got one. Don't want one. Fighting tooth and nail to keep it that way.
I just bought a new flip phone and I hate that too.

Life would be SO much better if everyone just went back to wired. Or even threw the dang things away.

Then if you wanted to talk to someone, you would go to their house, sit on the porch, and have a real conversation... with lemonade.

Yes

Some of us work in tech, and need them for our jobs.  When I retire in a few years, the phone use will drop off quite a bit.  Verizon will have to find another host to bleed.

My return to the workplace has been an eye opener as to how much they're used now. I text my boss when I start work and I text when I finish work and then on Friday I text my total hours worked. On Friday I also get a text from both my boss and my bank telling me that my pay has been deposited in my account.

Ah yes...the paycheck.  That's how it always starts...

I must tell you, I'm shocked that you have a phone that can send and receive texts.  I always had you figured for a Jitterbug kind of guy.

I have one of those, too.  Better than my old slide rule.

I used to do 1500 minutes a month, before txting and internet... I know all about it.
That's why I refuse to do it anymore.

No smartphone here.

I do spend more time at the computer (computerS) than I probably should.
But they're better than watching tv (do very little of that).

Even do most of my reading on the laptop now (pdf/epub books).
Movies, too. A 27" display helps, sound is better through headphones, too.

Heh. Age will do that for you. I miss books. Real books... the smell, the page-turning...

I can still read em with glasses on most the time, but if you've ever tried to lay on your side and read in bed with glasses on...

So yeah... A  lot more podcasts, and digital books, where I can control the font size...

I don't have one. I've been thinking about a cheap one, the Samsung Core Prime, to read ebooks and stuff on
