Trump is evangelicals’ ‘dream president.’ Here’s why.

By Michael Gerson Opinion writer May 15

Even in an era of marriage diversity, it remains the most unlikely match: President Trump and his loyal evangelical base. In the compulsively transgressive, foul-mouthed, loser-disdaining, mammon-worshiping billionaire, conservative Christians “have found their dream president,” according to Jerry Falwell Jr.

It is a miracle, of sorts.

In a recent analysis, the Pew Research Center found that more than three-fourths of white evangelical Christians approve of Trump’s job performance, most of them “strongly.” With these evangelicals comprising about a quarter of the electorate, their support is the life jacket preventing Trump from slipping into unrecoverable political depths.

I'm not quite buying it.  This evangelical and the whole family reluctantly supported Trump because the alternative was worse.  But we are far from happy with his job performance and have no loyalty to him.  I would love to see him primaried in 4 years with a real conservative if he can hold on that long.

I have gone so far as to wonder if the blind allegiance to Trump exhibited by some "conservatives" and evangelicals has anything to do with the "strong delusion" the Bible speaks of in the end times. I think most of us take a wait and see attitude.  Trump will probably do some things well and hopefully Gorsuch and any other SCOTUS appointments are one of them.  But strong support?  I dont think so.

Why?

Because ever since Mike Huckabee emerged on the national stage in 2008, "evangelicals" have proven themselves to be more than willing to embrace frauds, if not actually frauds themselves.

Considering some of the demographic's most popular spiritual leaders, I would believe this.

Osteen viewership rivals votes the major candidates received.

The "name it and claim it prosperity gospel" is becoming (if it isn't already) our national religion, right and left (Osteen on the Right, Oprah pimping "The Secret" on the Left).

What makes you think their followers are Christians?  If they buy Osteen's garbage they are not Christians by my definition.  They are entertainment groupies like with any other rock star who tells them what they want to hear.

It may be our national religion, but it has nothing to do with Biblical Christianity.

Like hell. You ever run into one of those messes on a Sunday morning? They all gots their bibles and can quote em.

BTW, if you have this opinion of these folks, what do you think the Amish think about you lazily driving to church on Sunday to a heated and air conditioned building with lights to pray to Jesus?

I'm no fan of mega church "Christianity" nor am I a fan of the brand Christianity I often see preached at TOS.

I dont care what they think, but we worship the same Jesus.  The prosperity folks don't.  Christ said not everyone who calls Him Lord will be saved.  Most evangelicals that I know ( and I know a lot of them ) are mortified by the Osteen crowd and sad and angry about the way they pervert orthodox Christianity.  The world is full of counterfeits both on the religious and the conservative political side.

"Jesus answered, “See to it that no one deceives you. For many will come in My name, claiming, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will deceive many". - Matthew 24:4-5
Fart for freedom, fart for liberty and fart proudly.  - Benjamin Franklin

...Obsta principiis—Nip the shoots of arbitrary power in the bud, is the only maxim which can ever preserve the liberties of any people. When the people give way, their deceivers, betrayers and destroyers press upon them so fast that there is no resisting afterwards. The nature of the encroachment upon [the] American constitution is such, as to grow every day more and more encroaching. Like a cancer, it eats faster and faster every hour." - John Adams, February 6, 1775

Funniest Amazon.com book review I ever read was for The Secret.  It was so funny, Amazon took it down... but myself and a few others had the forethought to archive it.  Enjoy:

The Secret saved my life!, December 4, 2007
By Ari Brouillette

Please allow me to share with you how “The Secret” changed my life and in a very real and substantive way allowed me to overcome a severe crisis in my personal life. It is well known that the premise of “The Secret” is the science of attracting the things in life that you desire and need and in removing from your life those things that you don’t want. Before finding this book, I knew nothing of these principles, the process of positive visualization, and had actually engaged in reckless behaviors to the point of endangering my own life and wellbeing.

At age 36, I found myself in a medium security prison serving 3-5 years for destruction of government property and public intoxication. This was stiff punishment for drunkenly defecating in a mailbox but as the judge pointed out, this was my third conviction for the exact same crime. I obviously had an alcohol problem and a deep and intense disrespect for the postal system, but even more importantly I was ignoring the very fabric of our metaphysical reality and inviting destructive influences into my life.

My fourth day in prison was the first day that I was allowed in general population and while in the recreation yard I was approached by a prisoner named Marcus who calmly informed me that as a new prisoner I had been purchased by him for three packs of Winston cigarettes and 8 ounces of Pruno (prison wine). Marcus elaborated further that I could expect to be raped by him on a daily basis and that I had pretty eyes.

Needless to say, I was deeply shocked that my life had sunk to this level. Although I’ve never been homophobic I was discovering that I was very rape phobic and dismayed by my overall personal street value of roughly $15. I returned to my cell and sat very quietly, searching myself for answers on how I could improve my life and distance myself from harmful outside influences. At that point, in what I consider to be a miraculous moment, my cell mate Jim Norton informed me that he knew about the Marcus situation and that he had something that could solve my problems. He handed me a copy of “The Secret”. Normally I wouldn’t have turned to a self help book to resolve such a severe and immediate threat but I literally didn’t have any other available alternatives. I immediately opened the book and began to read.

The first few chapters deal with the essence of something called the “Law of Attraction” in which a primal universal force is available to us and can be harnessed for the betterment of our lives. The theoretical nature of the first few chapters wasn’t exactly putting me at peace. In fact, I had never meditated and had great difficulty with closing out the chaotic noises of the prison and visualizing the positive changes that I so dearly needed. It was when I reached Chapter 6 “The Secret to Relationships” that I realized how this book could help me distance myself from Marcus and his negative intentions. Starting with chapter six there was a cavity carved into the book and in that cavity was a prison shiv. This particular shiv was a toothbrush with a handle that had been repeatedly melted and ground into a razor sharp point.

The next day in the exercise yard I carried “The Secret” with me and when Marcus approached me I opened the book and stabbed him in the neck. The next eight weeks in solitary confinement provided ample time to practice positive visualization and the 16 hours per day of absolute darkness made visualization about the only thing that I actually could do. I’m not sure that everybody’s life will be changed in such a dramatic way by this book but I’m very thankful to have found it and will continue to recommend it heartily.

They're still crazy about him at the First Baptist in Dallas.  Jeffer's, the pastor that stumped for him, church.  Saw a YouTube of them praying for Trump on his overseas trip coming up.
