Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said the Lone Star State's tough new law banning sanctuary jurisdictions should work smoothly, despite the howls of protest over its targeting of illegal immigrants.

"We have very solid professional law enforcement," Abbott told Newsmax TV's Steve Malzberg on Thursday. "And so what we are expecting is for sheriffs and police chiefs to very simply enforce the law, work collaboratively with the federal government – which, by the way, they do on a multitude of issues, whether it be terrorism or cartel activity or human trafficking.
